MLP villain ranking: Chancellor Neighsay · 8:00pm Feb 26th, 2019

0/10 - AWFUL (unsalvageable, never should have been made, wouldn't recommend to anyone)
1/10 - HORRIBLE/BORING (tedious, hurts to watch, a bore, no reason to watch him/her, whatever positive things about him/her are tiny and not enough)
2/10 - VERY BAD (slightly less terrible, maybe there were one or two things you liked kept him/her from being a 1 but still very painful)
3/10 - BAD (the kind of bad where you're checking your watch over and over to see how much time is left before he/she gets off the screen)
4/10 - MEDIOCRE (not awful but not really that good either)
5/10 - EH (average, didn't love or hate him/her)
6/10 - DECENT (the first positive rating on this list, fine overall, glad you saw him/her once but wouldn't watch him/her again)
7/10 - GOOD (enjoyable enough that you'd maybe watch him/her again in future, had some noteworthy flaws but is overall a worthwhile villain)
8/10 - GREAT (a solid, enjoyable villain, very entertaining)
9/10 - EXCELLENT (very engaging, awesome, you definitely recommend to anyone)
10/10 - MASTERPIECE (extremely engaging, an absolute must-see)

Chancellor Neighsay

So they imprison a child in literal Hell yet reform the alt-right prick and still have Shitstain Glimmer around? For Christ’s sake, writers…

Honestly, Chancellor Neighsay could’ve been a decent villain if Twilight’s School of Friendship (stupid idea from the start) didn't go to shit in the season premiere. If it was actually running well but he found a weak excuse to shut it down anyway, thus there’s no contrived excuse for Twilight to disregard the rules that work for every other school and it gives the Mane Six a good reason to try and reopen it.

But that didn’t happen.

School Daze may have portrayed Neighsay as a xenophobic bigot but the thing is, his criticisms of Twilight were 100% right.

She is unsuited to run a school, especially given how flanderized she's become in the last few seasons. The school was disorganised. The Mane Six are irresponsible and unqualified teachers (they even admitted it in the episode) And the students being endangered, which the Young Six did do, is a huge problem for any school (even more so in later episodes). His points on Twilight’s unprofessionalism were completely warranted. Neighsay didn’t make the rules, he just enforces them.

The episode hastily stapled “racist” onto Neighsay’s personality so Twilight would have an excuse to not listen to him, throw her weight around and say “I’m right, screw the rules, I can do whatever I want”. Why do you think they portrayed the EEA as dark and sinister-looking figures covered in shadow? So the episode could have its strawman villain. The writers assumed the audience would be gullible enough to be distracted from Neighsay’s on-point criticisms if they made him a racist. And judging from how many decried him as “new worst pony”, the show staff were right to assume that. It’s a classic bad writing trick and the fandom fell for it hook, line and sinker.

If a Klansman told you that child abuse is bad, the fact he’s a Klansman is terrible but that doesn’t mean he’s wrong about child abuse being bad, because these two areas are completely separate from each other. Just like how Neighsay’s xenophobia is absent whenever he talks about Twilight’s poor management of the school.

It’s another example of the show staff forcing an idea to work instead of writing an idea that actually works.

What a waste of Maurice LaMarche.

3/10 BAD

What a waste of a character and voice actor. You sure know how to please your audience, Hasbro. :ajbemused:

I think the fact that everyone hates tis guy for being right is showing that when the show declines in quality so dose the fandom. im happy I stoped watching after season 6

No, they hate him because "he's racist so that automatically means he's wrong" and straight-up ignore the fact that he's right about Twilight's poor handling of the school. The writers didn't have to make him a racist, but they did anyway so that Twilight could ignore his correct criticisms and get what she wanted.

5020390
yeah but that still shows that the fandom is becoming ust as bad as the show itself

5020392
No argument there. Honestly for me, watching the show now feels more out of obligation than fun.

5020393
that's why I stoped watching it. once "rock solid friendship" came out and I saw that the writers were willing to make Bitch Face better friends with Maud the Pinkie who is bother her sister and is Pinkie Pie the graters at being friends with people. that was got be to say fuck it and stop watching. now I only really care about equestrian girls and even then its starting to lose me.

Yeah... I really have no idea what they were thinking with this guy.

I don't think the fandom "fandom fell for it hook, line and sinker" given all the criticism the School concept received and their noting his unintentionally valid points.

When they call Neighsay "new worst pony", do they say he's worst racist jerk (there are characters who we enjoy for being despicable bastards) OR worst bad writing? That's a key distinction that's all to rare online.

5038200
The former. "He's racist so that automatically means he's wrong about Twilight's school being poorly run and worst pony!"

5038205
Ok. I still believe it's only valid to dislike something if it's for reasons different than we are intended to dislike them.

Fun fact, Hasbro was the one who wanted the school concept. I wonder if Neighsay was the writers criticizing it as much as they could get away with. You'd have a hard time accidentally giving such a jerk so many valid points by accident.

School Daze may have portrayed Neighsay as a xenophobic bigot but the thing is, his criticisms of Twilight were 100% right.

Even more funny thing about that episode is that he's ki-inda right about other "xenophobic" things he said too. Of course he's irredeemable idiot for insulting leaders of other nations in their faces.

It wouldn't surprise me if they originally wanted Neighsay to be the villain for "School Raze" before deciding that somehow after being so easily duped by Flim and Flam in "Friendship University" he wouldn't be willing to commit treason.
