Opinions on the MC · 8:04pm Feb 21st, 2019

So before I start this discussion, I thought I would just give a quick update.

Ask Roseate Grimsbane is finished and has been sent out for editing. After that the proofreaders will have a look at it. Hopefully if everything goes well, it will be out sometime next week.

Now onto the main point of discussion. If you haven't read my short story: Missed Stop, Monstrous Meeting, we will be discussing this story, so please go read it and come back here.

Today I wanted to ask you about your opinions on the story's MC, or the character that represented the readers as they read the story. First I would like to establish some of my decisions for you all so things make some sense.

Why a Stallion?
For those of you who aren't aware, I am all for straight ships but not a huge fan of ships of the homosexual nature (please don't be offended, it just isn't my cup of tea), so since most of the unique characters are going to be female, I thought I would establish the MC as a male just in case I decided to go a romantic route with any of the characters.

Why a Unicorn?
I picked the unicorn race merely because it is a bit easier to use. You have a magical means to pick up/interact with items and a built in flashlight.

Why a Novelist?
The reason I picked the character's occupation as a novelist is because I thought it would be something that most of the audience could relate to. After all, most of the people here on FiMFiction are to some extent writers. It is also an occupation where it makes sense for the MC to explore the world and meet new characters.

Why you break my nose?
So in most stories you need to establish the main character's strength, weaknesses and flaws. Otherwise they might be confused for a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. However, this is kind of difficult to do in a second person story, because to an extent you are telling the reader, these are your flaws, which aren't necessarily true.

I also didn't want to treat my readers like: Anon, you know, that green headed humanoid that comes across as a womanizing a**hole. While you guys may annoy me from time to time, that doesn't mean you deserve that kind of treatment.

However, a little slap stick humor can make things enjoyable. So having bad yet funny things happen to the reader can sort of scratch that itch... if that makes sense. :unsuresweetie:

Will the MC fall in love with Amble Bard?
It is possible, however I am kind of wanting to explore a few other character concepts and perhaps give the option for the readers to perhaps develop feelings for these characters.

It is also possible that I may write multiple paths so that the readers can explore multiple routes with the other characters. Who knows. :raritywink:

Are there other stories that can scratch the itch you have given me?
There is one story that was written for me by Lupine Infernis, that I am almost considering to be a part of the same universe (still thinking about it). If you want to check it out, than take a look at the embedded story below.

TSomewhere, Beyond the Sea
On an airship voyage gone wrong, Fancypants discovers the love of his life
Lupine Infernis · 15k words  ·  59  0 · 1.1k views

I guess that is it for now. If you have any feedback on the Main Character, I would be happy to hear it.

Here is an image for reading all the way to the end. Have fun. :raritywink:

-Yep, it is a creepy monster mare (at least I think it's a pony) image, just for you. Check out the original image: Here.

I think you could write a story alone based on that image. But it's nice to see the reason behind the story. I would give bonus points but that would be unfair as you are the only one who is currently officially entered the contest

5017664 I am sorry that no one else has entered the contest. I tried so hard to promote it. :ajsleepy:

5017665
I know but there is still time for entry. And I do feel bad for winners by default

5017666 I would have no objection to you extending the deadline if that meant more people could join.

5017668
Agreed but I haven't been informed of any new contenders I would extent it for one more participant at this point

Somewhat generic, but that's a good thing in this case, means more widespread people can relate.
And god, do I love the 'humble introvert novelist' stereotype.
