But sometimes things get a little...weird.

Also, I am so sick and tired of there being way too many Fire Emblem characters in the game. I mean, every single one has almost exactly the same moveset and they all LOOK the same too! Why are there so many different almost-identical FE characters?!

Speaking of sick, I seem to be coming down with the flu...AGAIN...oy. -_-

I couldn't agree more with you, here have a like.

5016926 And it's not like they could add characters like Panne or Keaton since they transform using certain stones. It would give a bit more variety because of that.

You can nearly fill an entire 8 player Smash just with Fire Emblem characters, this is silly.

To be even more totally fair, two of those characters are Echo Fighters. They're supposed to have very similar movesets.

being an Roy main, i dont really see him as much of a Marth clone anymore. aside from the same moves, he plays more like Melee Marth than recent Marth. but the do need to not have similar sets on them, heck, give the clones other weapons they're known for as smash attacks.

As a fan of Fire Emblem, the problem with representing a franchise like that in a Game like Smash is that, unlike... pretty much every other franchise there, they have new characters every game. Not just new characyers, but a lot of them! So it's hard to parse down. And Smash fans don't make things easier. Maybe they could have kept Roy out, and replaced Marth with Lucina, but then the Melee fans would absolutely RIOT. But Nintendo isn't going to just abandon tge new games sne leave them out with no representation (Except Echoes I guess).

But yeah, Awakening definitely didn't need three reps. They probably could have gotten by fine with just Robin. They're pretty unique, even among the varied Smash roster, but both Chrom and Lucina are literal clones... they really should have been skins, like the two Ike models.

There are a lot of Fire Emblem characters that would have been decent choices without being another copy of Marth and/or Roy. Hector would be my first pick.

Honestly, even sword-using characters could be different if someone bothered to come up with a new moveset. A different sword style for myrmidon types (such as Ryoma the Lobster Prince, or Lyn I suppose) would be really interesting. Less charging up attacks, more mobility.

...Fates wasn't my favorite Fire Emblem overall, but I still would kinda like to see Ryoma and Xander in Smash Bros.

Yeah, I see your point, for some reason characters like Dr. Mario are just different enough to not be an Echo Fighter, even though for all intents and purposes they should be one. I guess since Dr. Mario's down air is different enough from Mario's down air that's enough for him to be a unique character? In that case Chrom should not be an Echo Fighter because his up special is based on Ike's rather than Roy's.

Young Link at least makes more sense this time around, since Link's moveset is based on Breath of the Wild Young Link carries Link's old moveset for those who prefer it over the new one. Doesn't excuse the fact that Toon Link's moveset is still too similar to that one, though.

Yes exactly, Ganondorf's moveset is distinct enough from Captain Falcon's moveset to justify him not being an Echo Fighter, when compared to, again, Dr. Mario.
