[THE LIST] Late, but fashionably so · 7:13pm Feb 15th, 2019
This list is not about my favorite stories of all time. That's my favorites list and one of these days I may get around to writing reviews of those fics.
The List is about stand-out, in-progress works that deserve more love, for whatever reason. In addition to general reviews of the fics, these blog posts will tell why I picked a particular story and highlight any features the reader should look out for. Spoilers will be appropriately marked, so you'll be able to read my reviews with confidence that you'll be able to read the story itself and experience the same surprise and delight I did when I first found it.
Also, authors and fans of works will be able to submit stories. Your particular selection may not make it onto the list, and the more information you give me for why you think it should be featured, the more likely I'll be to read and post it. To submit a fiction, simply PM me through FiMFiction's link on my profile.

A Dazzling Sunset

Premise
Right after the Battle of the Bands, one of the Sirens and one of the Rainbooms have several encounters with each other. Through these encounters, they discover a mutual interest...and a mutual attraction.
Princess Columbia's Synopsis
I'll admit that there were a few story beats I didn't see coming with this, and likely you won't either. Aria gaining her powers (and bigger and badder than Adagio's), was a left-field surprise, but one that was perfectly introduced to a scene practically in medias res, creating a perfect "villains intro" for the story's apparent "big bad." (this is not a spoiler, by the by, it's just me acknowledging that the Brony fandom likes to have shadow villains manipulating things behind the scenes, and this story is just entering the second act, so there may be more bad guys than just Aria later on)
Of note is some of the head-canon in Chapter 3. While grating for a moment, the inconsistencies with canon are so brief in their mention that it's possible to completely dismiss them without further thought.
Like the rest of Fuzzyfurvert's work, this has a good heaping helping of lesbian romance, but surprisingly little lewd. (Surprising only if you're familiar with a certain legume-themed series by the same author)
Why am I highlighting this fic?
I would like to point out that I didn't intentionally select a fic by Fuzzyfurvert two weeks in a row. It just so happens that my "Tracking" list is a venne diagram that includes The Sirens, Sunset Shimmer, Lesbians, Horse Girls, and Lesbian Horse Girls with Gender Issues. Fuzzyfurvert just happens to write a lot of fics that cover four out of five of those categories at any given time, and sometimes sweeps the category like a Jeopardy champion.
What makes this fic particularly good?
Fuzzyfurvert's legendarily mature (as in "experienced" and not "lewd") story telling style while still rating for a mature (as in "lewd" and not "experienced") subject matter shows that it's possible to create engaging, fun, funny stories that don't have to be clop-fests or devolve into using juvenile language.
Who would like this fic?
People who like shipping two tigers on a hill, Adadio fans, Sunset fans, and people who REALLY want to see the return of Demon Sunset.
Does the author monetize?2
No, be sure to drop them a line to encourage them to become a filthy, filthy capitalist.
- Endorsement on Princess Columbia's List is an endorsement of the selected work of fiction only and is not intended to endorse the creator of the work in any other way.
- Why highlight whether the author monetizes their work? By providing renumeration to the author, you often get the opportunity to request certain works be given higher priority. Additionally, when a person is able to get paid for their passion on their terms, it can often allow them to cut out things that otherwise distract from said passion, like a day job.
