Today is a very sad day · 4:09pm Feb 14th, 2019
No, not because it's Valentine's Day. That's a reason to feel good, even if you don't have someone to share it with. What? Don't believe me?
You! Yes, you, the one feeling sorry for yourself. Get a little closer to the monitor and press your cheek against it. A little closer.
There you go. Happy Early Singles Appreciation Day!
Also, you! No, not you, the other one. Yes, you! I saw that you weren't pressing your cheek against the monitor but another body part, and I just want you to know that I'm okay with that.
Anyway, why is today a sad day? Because today, after half a year of silence, NASA has ceased attempts to reestablish contact with its Mars Opportunity rover. So it officially marks the end of humanity's most succesful mission to another planet to date.
This was one tough, little robot. I mean, think about it. It was only supposed to last 90 days. Opportunity roamed the Martian surface for nearly 15 years, sent home proof that there was once running water on Mars, broke the record for distance travelled on a celestial body that isn't Earth, and it took a GLOBAL dust storm to take it out, without which it would likely still be running today.
When Opportunity and her sister Spirit (Yes, of course they're female. Have you ever seen a man last more than half an hour tops? Didn't think so.) launched in 2003, I was still in school. This year, it'll be five years after I got my university degree, just to put that into perspective.
So let's take a minute to remember her. Here's the selfie Opportunity made of itself on Sol 5000, a mere few months before the 2018 Mars Global Dust Storm buried it:
Goodbye, little friend. Thanks for all the pictures.
It's Valentine's day and my date cancelled on me so I've spent most of the day in a foul mood. And just as I was about to ask if it could get any worse I read that... Dear Gog, I hate myself...
Happy Valentine's Day!
How unfortunate. That is a little upsetting to say the least. But hey, if we did it once, we can do it again, right? And probably much better! While it is unfortunate, we gathered a lot of data from the little guy.
Oh, and BTW
If you mean sex, then yes WAY more than half an hour, sweetie (after a reasonable break, of course).
If you mean training, then yes, for a total of 4 excruciating hours 6 days out of the week.
If you mean pain...well ya probably got me there, lol. I'm a weenie when I'm not focused and unprepared for it, lol.
