Just wanted to compile my 10 absolute favourite works of fanfiction I've found on this site so far, and will provide reasons why to make it a fun read! Maybe you'll find something here that catches your eye!
Dishonorable Mention: Blonde Moments by FamousLastWords - This is 99% a sweet Spike/Derpy fic that really drew me in. The ending, however, is fucking miserable. I've never had a story actually break my heart before or since in any form of media. I'm sure the author had his reasons for this(it's like real life, it'll make you appreciate what you have etc.), but I don't care. Real life's bad enough, I don't need shit like this in my fanfiction. Don't get me wrong, tragic endings are a staple of fiction, but these things need to be set up. Just having it happen *because* hits way too close to home. Or at least it did for me.

#10. Shadows Unseen by The Fields Of Ice - Spike and an alternate reality version of Twilight fall in love despite being unable to touch one another. It's a really cool twist and I like the exploration of the different choices the characters made in different worlds. Regrettably, this is an unfinished fic, but the author's still kinda around so do me a favor and pester him until he gives in, eh?
#9. Ingress: Spooning Silver by Anonymous Pegasus - A human babysits Silver Spoon and she goes into heat and they fuck. It's only here because it's like, the best-written clopfic on the site(I am never going to see the word "needy" the same way again...) Come on, what top 10 list of this nature would be complete without a clopfic? 
#8. Open Bar by CYOA_AiE - Applejack becomes disabled and her special somehuman helps her cope. I love stories where loved ones help other loved discover or rediscover their worth. Always a great boost of self-esteem.
#7. Taking Care by Arwhale - Big Mac and Fluttershy work through some relationship issues in a very Big Mac and Fluttershy kind of way. That's all there really is to it. If you like these two, you'll love this. It's cute. 
#6. Chris's Batty Family by MadMaxtheBlack - A human is raised amongst batponies. And then he forms a herd with all his batpony sisters. Batponies. Instant win. Sadly unfinished, but what we got was good enough to get this far. Not only is it great clop, but all the batponies have very distinct, likable personalities.
#5. Understanding Romance by DarkRyu - Hoo boy, ok... take a deep breath and sit down, cause this one's a doozy: Applejack is raped and goes to Big Mac for comfort and that leads to them becoming a couple. Yeah, it sounds terrible when you say it out loud, but somehow, the way it's written works. I don't know how, it just does. Try it.
#4. Love Is In Bloom by StayedGolden - This thing is basically a novel. It's completely humanized( takes place on Earth, everyone has human skin, electric appliances, real life locations are mentioned) and follows a miserable relative of the Apple Family from the city who finds his place on the farm with Apple Bloom. I'm not really into fanfics that try to be legitimate grand stories in their own right(sorry Fallout Equestria fans, but wtf?), and I wouldn't go through this again, but the way these two characters fit together was super sweet and it did keep me reading all the way through, so I have to recommend it. Not entirely my thing, but very lovely.
#3. Sculpting Marble by Flammenwerfer - Anon comes to work to the Pie rock farm and helps with Marble's extreme introvertness. As an introvert myself, I found Marble to be a relatable character and the deep trust she built with Anon was adorable beyond belief.
#2. Herding Instincts by Sparky Brony - The ultimate RGRE herd story, without the usual "mares wanna strip you naked because" cliches. There's actual thought put into it, you're not just herding with all the usual characters and for those who want it, plenty of clop too!
#1. Waking Up/Living/Contest In Equestria by Saltybedspackle - My favourite take on the Human In Equestria trope. The human builds a romance with Scootaloo based on mutual interests, there's character development, threats, even a bit of a political side to it(but not overwhelmingly so, the focus is still squarely on romance). It's a shame that the final part's not finished as the concept of the Human in war and how it affects his loved ones was very enticing. It'll hopefully be finished one day, but for now, it's a terrific ride nonetheless.
Alas, my heart is broken.

I may or may not have had a teensy tiny breakdown after getting to that ending... oh man. I could not write something as cruel as that, I'll tell you.
But yeah, it was very well written, I just massively disagreed the downer conclusion lol. I'm an optimist when it comes to romance.
