A JD Review - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) · 4:13am Jan 22nd, 2019

And the best animated film of 2018 goes to...

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. My Lord, what a phenomenal experience. Let's not waste anymore time. Let's get into it.

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

I'll be honest. I didn't have high expectations for this film (as you can tell from past horrors, Sony Animation doesn't really have the best track record). The animation for this film seemed a bit off for me as well. But considering this movie came from the people behind The Lego Movie, I decided to finally give it a try. Especially after hearing all the great reviews and my brother constantly bugging me to see it, I went out and saw the film with a few friends. You know what? I was completely blown away.

The animation is actually really great (even if it does take a bit to get used to, and it does have a few flashing lights that may trigger seizures). But once you get into it, you can be really entertained with this film. The action, the comedy, the characters, the directing and writing were all just so GOOD. The characters especially really knocked it out of the park. Miles Morales' rise to Spider-Man was a fantastic focal point for the film. Peter Parker was represented in a unique perspective, but still respectful to his character. Spider-Gwen was awesome. Hailee Steinfeld is killing it this year! Peni Parker, Spider-Noir, and even Spider-Ham were all incredible additions as well! Every voice actor brought their a-game, and it definitely paid off.

Overall, just one of the best animated films I've ever seen. Definitely go check it out. 10/10. What were your thoughts?

SPOILER REVIEW

This is a Spider-Man movie unlike any other. It throws your expectations right out the window with, first of all, the death of Peter Parker (second time he's died this year. Wow). Dying at the hands of Kingpin, we learn that the Peter that died was Miles Morales' universe's Spider-Man, and that another version of Peter Parker is able to enter Miles' universe to show him the ropes of being Spider-Man. The dynamic between Peter and Miles is so natural and so great. Just the idea of a weary, worn Peter Parker showing the next generation on how to be a hero is a fantastic message.

Oh, and stick around for the after-credit scene. The 2099 Spider-Man meeting the 1967 Spider-Man was hilarious.

Other than that, I don't really want to spoil that much else. This film needs to be experienced firsthand. 10/10. What were your thoughts?

This movie was the perfect way to end an already great year for Spider-Man.

Cynical mentor Peter B Parker was cool, and it’s refreshing to see Miles be his own character and take the spotlight after so many years of him stagnating in the comics and basically becoming another Peter Parker.

My only gripes are Green Goblin’s design and his minor role, Scorpion’s design, and the lack of Japanese Spider-Man along with his mech, Leopardon, but with 60s Spidey showing up I feel like it’s only a matter of time until he follows.

Oh and the Spidey Christmas album is a work of art.

With this becoming a franchise and Spidey staying in the MCU, I think Sony has something good going on here. I just hope they don’t mess this up.

honestly, had to choose between Bumblebee and this... I choose Bumblebee. I am still proud of my choice(especially with needing to show support for that movie to get our Optimus Movie) but maybe after I get stablized and back on my feet Ill be buying this on DVD

This movie had me weak in the knees both from the amazing animation to the unmatched humour! I’d watch in a thousand more times in theatres! 10/10 :yay: Also, What’s Up Danger is great.

As much as I love this movie, I still can't believe this beat the Incredibles 2 at the Golden Globes.

Don't forget the Stan Lee tribute and cameo.

And oh.

Thanks for everything

Stan Lee & Steve Ditko

We will never forget you two. From us, True Believers

I liked it but to me the animation was REALLY strange and that kinda ruined it for me. sorry. 8/10

Definitely the best Spider-Man movie I've seen thus far. It was a good change of pace with the story focusing on Miles as the main character with the older mid-crisis Peter taking on the reluctant mentor role.
The animation did seem a bit odd to me at first glance from the trailers and the Venom post credits preview, but after watching this whole, I can say it was the most amazing thing produced (no pun intended).

5000662 Already hearing word of a sequel in the works, and if it has the same people behind it, then Sony already has me money.

5000665 Tough choice between the two. They're both equally great.

5000674 Even though I'm not into the type of music in the film, I absolutely love the soundtrack.

5000699 I can kinda see how it was able to.

5000721 Got a little teary-eyed during Stan's cameo and film's tribute to them. :pinkiesad2:

5000731 The animation was unlike anything we've ever seen (well, at least unlike anything I'VE ever seen) so it's understandable if it felt a bit weird.

5000790 I don't know if it's personally my favorite Spider-Man film, but it's definitely up there. :moustache:

Yeah, the jazzy comic book look, almost 'double/blurry' vison was kinda a deal breaker for me. Sorry.

I finally saw it myself yesterday. It lived up to every bit of hype people give it and it totally deserves that Oscar. I admit, I don’t know much about Mikes from the comics but this film is a great introduction to him.
