Ponyfeather Publishing · 2:26am Jan 17th, 2019

I've been working on this for a long time; months from some perspectives, years from others. So I hope you can understand how thrilled I am to finally tell you that my current passion project, in many ways the Vault's spiritual successor, will be going live soon.

I will be working (really, have already begun working) with select authors to offer free ebooks and at-cost Lulu prints of ponyfic novels and novel-length short story collections. Each one will be thoroughly copyedited, cleanly formatted, and feature specially commissioned cover art to give both the authors and the readers the book they deserve.

(Between you and me, there's a lot of ponyfic I think deserves publication, but not every author can take the time to figure out how to make that happen, so I'm happy to help out where I can.)

There will be no set publication schedule; each new book will simply be released when it's ready. I am super-excited about every title in the current lineup; I can't wait to release each one, and to reach out to more authors as time goes on.

The next PFP blog post will go up when the first book is available—see you soon!

P.S. Fingers crossed that Aquaman's BronyCon bookstore comes to pass, because if it does, I'll be making sure every Ponyfeather Publishing title there's room for will be available there.

But seriously, thank you so much for all the effort you've put into this. There's something symbolically powerful about a physical book, and I'm incredibly grateful to all the people who put in the time and effort to give us the opportunity to own such cultural artefacts.

Is the list available to the public? There are a few stories on the site that I would very much love to hold in my hands.

Holy shit

That's cool! And nice work! :)

Neat!

If i ever get something worth going along with WWA (or someone wants to shove there's next to mine) I'd totally go in on that. Maybe Benman's changeling's everywhere :P?

Exactly. Now let's hope that Hasbro doesn't nuke me from orbit!

It is much more fun for me if each release is a surprise. :pinkiehappy:

For the time being, each title is single author; the short story collections are from authors who've written enough that I could invite them to put together a selection of their favorite pieces. In other words, they're less "anthologies" and more "selected works." I don't currently have a solution for authors I'd like to work with whose oeuvres aren't large or strong enough to support such a collection; that may end up taking the form of a thematic anthology, but I'm not ready to tackle that yet.

Looks like an awesome project! It might be a bit before I hear back about merch hall space for the Bookstore, but once I do I’d love to talk more about how to get some of your volumes in there.

Right, I guess that last really should have been "as many titles as possible"—my bad! I hope they approve it, I think it's a super exciting idea.

It is much more fun for me if each release is a surprise.

You may have thought of this already, but it would be even better to conspire with each author, so they can announce it the same time you do.

This will be great. I'll be keen to see the whole selection when the time comes.

Sign me up!

Yo, this is super neat.

This sounds awesome! I'll be looking forward to the ebooks especially.

Is it time to change your tagline? :trixieshiftright:

So...are you the real life publisher/publishing company?

This sounds great! I'm looking forward to seeing what you publish!

I TOLD YOU IT WAS A LEGITIMATE ART FORM, MOM. LOOK IT'S GETTING PUBLISHED AND EVERYTHING.

>novel-length short story collections

Really looking forward to it, I love having actual printed fics.

This is both nice and dubiously legal.

Good luck!

shit, son :D

... as so many things are.

You're going to contact an author before you publish their work though, I assume? :trixieshiftright:

But I like my tagline :fluttershysad:

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking -- I am the person who will be doing what's described in the blog post, yes; I'll be sort of a hobbyist publisher.

Shhhhh

Of course:

I can't wait to ... reach out to more authors as time goes on.

If nothing else, from a purely practical standpoint, I can't very well get copyedits approved or give the author updated BBCode/HTML of their stories without talking to them, so...

Excellent! :pinkiehappy:

From the blog post itself and the comments, I'm unclear on exactly how this works. Are you asking people to submit their names for consideration, or are you going to decide that on your own and contact the authors you consider worthy?

At least for the time being, I'm not accepting submissions; I'm reaching out to authors I want to work with to publish their work. (At the end of the day, this is still meant to be a fun hobby for me, not a job.)

I have a comfortably full first round of authors with books in production, but I certainly haven't come close to talking with everyone I'd like to offer this to; it'll be an ongoing process of inviting more authors as titles are published.

Huzzah! This is a thing I didn't know I needed. There are several different stories I'd love to get in clean Ebook formats! I can't wait to see how this looks!

:pinkiehappy::raritystarry::yay: This sounds neat, I'll look forward to the next blog post, not that I can afford a bunch of books right now (trying to save for bronycon), but there are so many good fics out there, even some of the short one or two chapter stories would be nice in print (do like one of those 3 or 5 story collection type books).

You're an absolute saint for putting your time to this rather massive undertaking.

not that I can afford a bunch of books right now

This kind of statement is one of the reasons I wanted to do this. PFP books will be available indefinitely -- no timed releases, no crowdfunded print runs, no limited editions. You can buy them when you can afford to with no worries.

Thank you for your concern, I really do appreciate it, I meant this statement more in a sense of I'm trying to be a good boy with my money more than I cannot actually afford anything.

PM sent.
