    Thoughts on Harakiri (1962)

Wow. This was a masterclass in buildup and tension. I knew about Masaki Kobayashi's movie before - a scathing indictment of the samurai and the honor code that they profess to live by - but all the same, watching the movie had me hooked from start to finish. :scootangel:

Some More Thoughts on Godzilla x Kong

This is more of a full-fledged review with some extra observations that sprang to mind, thinking about the movie. For anyone who's interested.

    Thoughts on Galaxy Quest

Finally getting around to writing up my thoughts on this one. I had heard plenty of good things about it from my parents, though I had yet to see it. Finally, we rung in the new year by watching "Galaxy Quest" with dinner.

I watched Godzilla x Kong yesterday

    And all in all?

It was fun. Good mindless monster mash of a film. Funny how much some of the stuff with Kong in the movie made me think, just a little, of Primal. If only for the lack of dialogue and the importance of character through action and expression.

    Happy Sunday to everybody

Hello all. Just wanted to check in this Sunday (Easter Sunday, for any churchgoing types out there) and wish you all well.

Hope that the year has been okay for everybody. March wasn't the best month for me, I was sick at the start of it and only around the last week have I really felt 100% again, but I'm hoping for things to pick up going forward from here.

    Best wishes, eh?

So This Is Christmas · 9:06pm Dec 26th, 2018

Now that I've made the obligatory reference to some kind of Christmas song...

I hope you all had a good day on the twenty-fifth of December, and the other related days too. It only comes once a year, as they say.

On my end, it's been a pretty good time. My aunt came down to visit us and it's been nice to have her. My dad and I went to our church's Christmas Eve service, which has a candlelit portion that I absolutely love.

And of course, on the big day, there's presents. XD

Some choice picks of this year's loot:

- Red Dead Redemption II (YES)
- Soundtracks to Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom and The Crimes of Grindelwald (both criminally underrated movies in my mind)
- Plenty of books: from paleontological texts like The Tyrannosaur Chronicles and Dinosaurs: The Grand Tour, to several analyses/histories of Batman (Batman Unmasked, and Hunting the Dark Knight, both by Will Brooker), and then some fun stuff like A Short History of Drunkenness (a chronicle of drinking in all its myriad forms through recorded history) and Con Artist (a murder mystery set at a comic convention), I'll be in good reading material for a year or more XD
- The entire Batman TV series from 1966, with Adam West and Burt Ward. :rainbowlaugh: My dad and I loved watching episodes of it on MeTV during the summer, and I can't wait to resume the tradition now that we've got the full show to enjoy. ^_^
- Comics! Ranging from Batman Odyssey (which I have heard some really interesting things about, btw XD) to Star Wars Legends: Infinities (basically the "What If?" for the Star Wars universe, ranging from "What if Luke missed his shot on the Death Star?" or "What if Vader survived Return of the Jedi?" or stuff like that...) Should be interesting. I also bought some new comics recently, like another Star Wars Legends collection (Legacy, to be specific, which I've heard so much good stuff about) and All-Star Batman (NOT the Frank Miller comic! I'm talking about Scott Snyder's superb run for DC Rebirth!)
- An adorable Christmas tree ornament of Twilight Sparkle herself, from My Little Pony. This one from my sister, who well knows my fondness for that show. Thanks, Liv.
- And some gift cards for Amazon and Barnes and Noble, courtesy of my aunt, which I immediately put to good use. Definitely looking forward to my copy of the final Witcher book when it gets here...

So all in all, a very nice haul. I'm happy with it, and right now, just happy to sit down and take it easy. ^_^

Happy Holidays, everyone.

And also, Happy New Year too. ;-)
