I wrote a Christmas thing! Also, a challenge! · 7:14am Dec 23rd, 2018

The FiMFic Secret Santa has gone live! Fifty short stories (plus maybe half a dozen more to be posted when their authors finish up) in one big awesome megapost of Christmas Hearth's Warming cheer. And one of them's mine!

Though first, let me mention that there's also one written for me. The author tragically misspelled Carrot Top's name throughout (I'm not sure how it got changed to "Golden Harvest," but I can only assume some sort of disastrously extreme spellchecker error), but that notwithstanding assembled a piece that brought me a lot of pleasure just by virtue of its existence, and which does some solid character work to boot! If that sounds like your thing, check out A Carrot Christmas Carol.

That, or just go dive in and read whatever catches your eye. There's plenty of stories there, and plenty of good authors (I don't assume that any of the names I don't recognize aren't good authors, mind; I'm just saying there are lots of names in there that I can immediately identify as good authors)

But of course, you're here for Chris writing. The problem is, I can't tell you which story I wrote yet. The solution? I'm going to incentivize you to figure it out! For anyone who correctly guesses (in the Jinglemas comments section, on this blog post, or in a PM) which story I wrote before I reveal my authorship (which will be December 29th at the earliest, but knowing me will probably be significantly later), I'll write a long-form review of any story of your choosing and post it in a FiMFic blog. Long story? Fine. Something you wrote? I'll give it plenty of attention. Not actually an MLP fic? Sure, I'll give it a go! I'm pretty sure I can't do M-rated fics from this site, but other than that, sky's the limit. Guess my fic, win a bunch of words worth of critique, analysis, and/or blather towards any tale of your choice!

To be fair, though, 50 fics is a lot to sort through. So I'll give you a few clues to narrow it down just a scootch:

1) I didn't write A Carrot Christmas Carol (natch)

2) My story has at least one "stylistic givaway" that I'm aware of, in the form of a homophone mixup that I've made plenty of times before, and didn't catch until just now :facehoof:

3) In order to write this story, I had to (got to) watch an episode that I'd never seen before! Heck, I even liked it pretty well!

4) Finally, and especially to help those of you with limited reading time: the Jinglemas rules "recommended" keeping your fic under 5k words. My story is not one of the several longer (sometimes significantly!) fics in the collection.

That's it! Go read, enjoy the holidays, and see if you can find something Chris wrote!

I am disappointed that it wasn't A Christams Carrot.

I just searched through every one of those sub-5k stories for compliment/complement and principle/principal, but couldn't find one mixing them up. Can't think of what else it might be

For the record, I wasn't actually cheating to win, just to see if I could do it

Well, the prospect of a new Chris review is an exciting one, in any case. Whoever wins, I hope they pick something interesting for you to examine.

Yeah, it wasn't either of those, nor was it its/it's (though to be fair, I think of that as more of a typo than a homophone thing). Guess it wasn't actually a top-three mixup. Probably top six, though!

You and me both :V Two guesses so far, FYI, and no winners yet!
