So yeah, Space Wars Day or whatever

Honestly I've been checked out on Star Wars for a long time: longer than before the new trilogy came around to sour it even further. I mean I technically still write Star Wars, though it's nothing that can be accepted by any ol' fan. For one thing, the Ssi-Ruuk are regularly represented, and another is that they're not presented as their original selves. Still a shame they're so under-utilized in

    Positive Vibes

So something curious has just happened: I just got done watching the South Park Post-Covid two part special, and it has put me in a very positive and hopeful mindset. Yeah: South Park of all things giving me the feel-goods. Like legitimate fuzzies about things working out.

Man, what an ending... · 6:42pm Dec 13th, 2018

Hey all, long time no chat once again. Making this here post to reflect my feelings on a certain lovely little game you may have heard of called Super Mario Odyssey.

Just recently I got myself a Nintendo Switch as an early Christmas present, and boy let me tell you how great it is playing in the HD era of console gaming proper. Sure it's no powerhouse like the XBone or PS4, but I'm still awed by how crisp everything looks! The first game I played was Ittle Dew 2+, which is also a really great game in its own right and those of you who can go out and play it either on Switch or PC. That game looked swell up on the big screen, and it still blows my mind how the Switch console itself is essentially a beefy tablet, and YOU CAN PICK IT UP AND PLAY IT ANYWHERE OH GOD IT'S REALLY THE FUTURE!! Anyway, this is supposed to be about Mario, a game I've waited over a year to play.

Let me tell ya, it's a Triple AAA title that's SOOOO worth the price of admission. Just about every step you take in that game a dozen side paths open up that lead to collectibles and challenges and so many distractions that will suck up hours of your life, mmmmmmm! It's an OCD sufferer's Best Nightmare. The more open world aspect to your typical 3D Mario formula is so delicious, it's like, oh my god, how have I waited this long without losing my mind in not playing this funfest? And there's so much frickin' fan service, such as with New Donk City and its festival sidequest (sidenote: one of the bonus rooms in that area has you riding a moped to escape A GODDAMN TREX! Did not see that one coming, and I'm so happy I didn't!). Then there's the absolutely shameless fan servicing with the area that unlocks after beating the game, I mean holy hell the nostalgia.

But about that ending which prompted me to make this post. I'm going to go into spoiler territory so for all your benefits I'll just black it out here. Anyway, after going through an incredible Bowser Castle level, you get up to the moon to stop the wedding Bowser is trying to force Peach into. So you get to him, have a clandestine battle, and rescue Princess Peach. But oh no! The whole place is collapsing and you gotta bust out of the underground. How do you do this? By tossing your ghost cap Cappy onto Bowser's head and possessing the mo-fo to smash your way through! That moment while it's happening I literally say HELL FUCKIN' YEAH! But what was even more of a surprise was in getting to the final room this rock song with vocals kicks on out of nowhere, so I'm there boppin' my head and smiling as I smash my way out into the ending, because gee to wrap up this adventure with some unexpected kid bop was a most pleasant surprise. So yeah, we get out, Mario and Bowser get rejected by Peach, the seeds of the Bowsette meme are planted, and all the while this song is still playing like, Hell Yeah, this is the kind of ending Mario never had but so absolutely needed and deserved after so many years. Goddamn this ending was fantastic and an absolute joy! Seriously, for no other reason, go out and play this game to experience the glory for yourself.

Wow, haven't gushed like that in type in a long while. And there's still plenty of game left to play before moving on to the next one. But when that time comes, I'll be sure to share with you my thoughts on the Ultimate Smash. Until then, all the best.
