My Top 10 Favorite Spongebob Moments · 4:39am Nov 29th, 2018

Thank you, Stephen Hillenburg. You gave everyone, adults and children alike, an amazing childhood. Rest peacefully, you goofy goober.

I bet every Spongebob episode has a joke or a line or a moment everyone who watched it remembers to this day. From “Chocolate!” to “The Ugly Barnacle”, all of us has at least one moment we remember deeply, that’s why I decided to do my Top 10 favorite Spongebob moments, to give this icon and his creator the acknowledgement they deserve.

Spongebob betrayed us (The Sponge Who Could Fly)

INSERT BELOVED PROPERTY THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE CARE ABOUT in a nutshell (I did this when The Hobbit premiered).

Imagination (Idiot Box)

A childish version of “Rear Window”, Squidward spying on Spongebob’s and Patrick’s box, hearing sounds and wondering if their imagination is real and what is real or not. Squidward slowly descending to madness is priceless and just as confusing as a real thriller.

Finland! (Frankendoodle)

The purpose of this episode: See others suffer. From Squidward losing his “hair” to the pencil itself (the effects are great), everything is funny and perhaps the best moment is Patrick's bowling pin head. I know it’s a random moment, but...

Chocolate guy (Chocolate With Nuts)

Enough said.

Nosferatu (Graveyard Shift)

The second half is funny as hell, watching how Squidward’s story appears to be true is tense, the atmosphere is scary the first times because it builds up and builds up every passing minute and of course... Nosferatu.

The International Justice League of Super Acquaintances vs E.V.I.L. (Mermaidman and Barnacleboy V)

Perhaps the best episode of these superheroes and a good parody of superheroes in general. The climax is hilarious because looking at this heroic team failing when victory is gifted is unrepeatable.

Sweet Victory (Band Geeks)

Without a doubt, the best ending of the entire series. Everybody knows and sings “Sweet Victory” thanks to this episode. I also like how every character has a memorable moment.

Krusty Krab Training Video

One of the few occasions where the plot isn’t necessary, just sit down and enjoy the jokes. Honestly, I can’t choose a favorite moment here, so I’ll just put some of them. Probably my favorite episode of the series.

Gary Come Home (Have You Seen This Snail?)

This song actually gets me. It hits me hard. I remember when I was young watching the Episode and feeling bad. This song was so sad when it first came out and now as adults it has become even sadder.

Shell City (The Spongebob Squarepants Movie)

I think what really gets to me about this scene is watching Spongebob, a character who is mostly the embodiment of naive optimism, just lying there, accepting his end. It really starts hitting me when Spongebob says, "I don't even think we're going to be able to save ourselves, buddy." Then he even manages to find a positive in the fact that they made it to Shell City. The scene is really well put together, and I honestly don't remember it getting to me as much as a kid as it does now. I mean even though we all know they're going to make it, it's pretty sad to see them forced to accept death like this.

And just to recap everything, a video essay from EmpLeon.

Now, it's your turn. What are your favorite Spongebob episodes or moments? Let me know in the comments.
