So…this may lose me some followers… · 8:17am Nov 24th, 2018
*Takes deep breath, and preemptively raises flame shield.* Well there is no simple way to say this so I'll just come out and say it, ok, ok…I watched Season 1 of Netflix's She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power and I actually enjoyed it.
I first heard about the show from an article titled "She-Ra’ Gives Us the Slow-Burn Queer Romance of Our Dreams", and it's mainly in regards to the hero character Adora, and the villain character Catra, but then I watched a video by TheQuartering, who I do not always agree with, called "She-Ra On Netflix Is WOKE Garbage". Much like the time I saw all the negative videos on Steven Universe a few years ago I got curious about the show and so I grabbed it from a site I grab all my shows from, and binge watched the entire season in one day.
Watching, I saw none of the "Woke Garbage" people had been talking about, I mean yeah, I saw the subtle hints that they may be shipping Adora and Catra in the future, and I saw the subtle fact that Netossa and Spinnerella were a couple, but beyond that a lot of what people said they saw to me was a case of them seeing what they wanted to see so that they could hate on the show.
I'm not saying the show is perfect, far from it, but it is not the dumpster fire that a lot of critics are claiming it to be. It had some pacing issues in the beginning, and some characters could use some work, but it got better as the season progressed.
If I had to put my finger on why people are reacting the way they are, I would point to the fact that sadly, a lot of our favorite forms of entertainment are being taken over by the more toxic elements of the LGBT Community, as well as the more toxic Social Justice Groups, often called Social Justice Warriors or SJW's. But another thing I think is causing this reacting is because....well let’s face it, this whole "Woke" thing we are all going through right now is a double edged sword.
What do I mean by this, well on the one hand, we are all right now seeing how much wrong is still left in our society right now, and we are taking actions against those wrongs. However, on the other hand, we are also seeing how much of the world has changed from what we used to know to what it is becoming today, and not everyone is pleased by this. Sure yes, some of these changes are bad, there is no denying that, but there also good changes coming, but because of how people are reacting right now, those good changes are being reacted to as though they are bad.
Which brings us back to She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power, for from what I have seen of the show thus far, this is a major re-imagining of the original source material, especially in regards to how the characters look and behave. Any other time this show might have been getting as much praise or more as it is getting hate, but with so many of us wielding the double edge sword that is "Being Woke", a lot of people are reacting poorly to the show because they are seeing it under a tainted light.
But with all that said, for those who can wield this double edge sword with critical thinking will be able to appreciate this show for what it is, and will be able to find enjoyment from it. As for the critics, well the show’s creators seem to be taking the hate and criticism in stride, which makes me laugh in a good way because of these people were anything like the people behind the Netflix Witcher series or the debacle that is The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story, they would be attacking the critics and fans of the original show like rabid dogs.
I myself will continue to enjoy the show, and wait patiently for the next season like with a lot of my favorite shows right now. I am wondering how they are going to handle her relations to He-Man, but if they want to totally re-imagine this world, they would truly make her an orphan by having it that her entire family was wiped out save for her. It would go a long way to better separate this new She-Ra from the original cannon, but till then, I will wait.
As a side note, I would love to see how Swift Wind would react to Equestria, that would be hilarious.
Eh, if you enjoy it then thats cool.
I dont care about it but that doesnt mean other cant. If that were the case none of us would be allowed to like MLP...
I've never even heard of that show until now so, good for you.
If you want to enjoy it then enjoy it.
