Know any good game controllers? · 10:28pm Nov 23rd, 2018
Right now, I play all my Steam games with a second-hand XBox 360 controller that frequently disconnects if I don't keep the cord firmly pressed against the back of it. And even then, that's only some of the time. Also, I run into things in Mega Man that I meant to slide under, because the D-pad has problems with "down". (I find this is a general thing with round D-pads.)
Anyone got any suggestions for a replacement? The more affordable the better! :B
(Anyone wanna throw me some bucks for some reviews? ._. For something unrelated.)
EDIT: Controller achieved! I could still use some bucks tho D:
A general Xbox One controller should be good. That's what I've heard, I've yet to try it out.
PS4 controllers can sync directly to your PC, as long as you have a bluetooth adapter

Yeah, I use my PS4 controller, and have never had an issue.
I use a Logitech F310. As others have said, you can also use a console controller but if you don't already have one lying around or you can snatch from a friend, this one runs a bit cheaper than a used console controller.
Steam makes it's own controller, but I really don't like its design. It feels like everything's been positioned backwards, the touch-sensitive D-pad seems to cause more problems than anything, and the buttons on the right are positioned too closely to the right-side D-pad, sometimes making me hit a down button at the same time as the Y and/or B buttons. I got... somewhat used to it after a while, but I was never happy with it. Tekken 7 in particular was a pain to play, and Nier: Automata too. Definitely go with something else.
I bought a rock candy controller that i like! It's Xbox style, hooks up to your pc super easy. Also has its own website for custom mapping. Literally bought mine at 5 below, it's lasted me something like 4 years so far? Definitely worth the price. Plus they look neat!
I used a wireless Xbox 360 controller for quite a while and had no trouble once I got it up and running.
There is a wireless dongle you will need to get, which plugs into a standard USB, and then there were drivers I had to download, but I never had a problem once I had it set up, even after unplugging it, just plugging back in and it was great.

Don't have bluetooth, not sure how doable that is.

I like the PS-style setup of that. Granted, I used to consider Logitech to be synonymous with "excellent computer peripherals", and the current pair of headphones I am wearing has severely damaged that trust. :|

Yeah, I've never liked the look of the Steam controller, or I'd have tried to get one sooner. A touch-sensitive D-pad just sounds like a really bad idea, for one.
I got the Solar Fade (Because Sunset Shimmer!) PowerA Enchanced Wired Controller a few weeks ago and it has worked like a charm. There's wireless too.

Ohey, the D-pad is actually a cross. :D That's decent!

I actually went ahead and got one of these, if only because they're on sale on Amazon. :B So thanks!

Good move, I got mine on sale too. If it goes bust, at least you're not out a lot of cash. That said, mine's done right by me for the last two years.

Got a four-year protection plan for a buck fifty, too. :B

A little bluetooth USB dongle is only like, $10 at Amazon.
I use a PS4 controller without Bluetooth, just using the USB cord, through the DS4 program. It works reasonably well, but occasionally does drop out.
I just use my console controller and connect it with USB or use the mouse. I mean, you can basically play Batman Arkham Knight with mouse, right? I mean, you can accidentally spam a bunch of buttons and then this happens.
I use PS3 pads with a software converter from Scarlet Crush Productions.
My favorite pad by a landslide.
There is one important trick to USB PC Controllers : Make sure to plug them into a powered USB hub. The reason is that the rumble functionality can sometimes pull more power than your standard USB port can handle, which can cause random disconnections even in perfectly functioning controllers. Even disabling the rumble inside the game is not enough.
If your Monitor has USB ports (most modern ones do), that will work. Otherwise, you can get a powered USB hub for about 15$

I'm using a hub plugged directly into my mobo. The cord issue is a known thing about this controller. :B

But is the hub powered independently? As in, it has its own power supply. Otherwise, you can still suffer from this.

Oh, I see what you mean. No, I'll have to consider that.
