Possible Name Change · 2:55am Nov 13th, 2018

My real name is Nathan Jaremsek, and I’ve been content with it for a while now (21 years) but I was thinking about maybe changing it. About 6 years ago, I created a character named Simon Devlyn. He became the main character of my “Starbourne” universe, and I think I want to change my name to his. How would you feel about this? You would still be allowed to call me Sky on here (or Sky or Phoenix on Twitch) but for people who know me on my Facebook, where I use my actual name, I’d have to tell them not to call me Nathan anymore. I already created a new Facebook account, which I would use as my main account if I changed my name. What are you guys’ thoughts on this? Should I do it? And if so, should I tell my family before or after I do it?

Going through a name change sounds like a rather big thing. Your parents likely put care into naming you. You don't seem too bothered by your name either. If you tell your folks they might protest, if you don't they might feel a bit betrayed.

I talked about it and they said they would be supportive if I changed it, but I’m still not sure if I want to.

I think you should put into perspective what it would be like to bear that name for life as opposed to the one you have. How would it sound when people call you that, does it sound nice or better than your current name?

Personally I would rather be called a name that I chose, especially one for a character I created, than a name that other people chose for me... but I’d have to tell everyone to stop deadnaming me. (calling me by my old or “dead” name)

It sounds like you would like the outcome then for the most part
