Previous Highlight Sunday Morning Shenanigans

In which brothers find themselves on opposite sides, a seventh Element of Harmony is discussed, and it is decided who is best student.

Sunday, July 29, 2018: Last Day of BronyCon 2018

After spending some time at StableTop Games, I made a quick pit stop at the Papa John’s vendor at the Pratt Street Lobby for lunch, then headed straight to the Hall of the Moon for Family Feud. Memory serving, they chose random people from the audience to fill up the two teams, which, interestingly enough, were named the “Hooffields” and “McColts”. Two of the participants were a couple of guys cosplaying as the Flim-Flam Brothers. Someone in the audience suggested that the Flim-Flams be split up (they were originally going to be on the same team—McColts, if I'm not mistaken), and the host eventually decided to put it to a vote:

Cheer if you want them on the same team! Quite a bit of noise (myself included).

Cheer if you want them split up! A LOT of noise!

And thus, the Flim-Flams were split up—to the immediate chagrin of the host. The Flim-Flams were immediately sniping at each other: remark here, gesture there. “You asked for it!” the host reminded the audience.

As for the game itself...

One of the first few questions was this: Starlight Glimmer has become the seventh Element of Harmony! What Element is she?
Some of the guesses need to be heard to be believed—especially when some of them actually ended up on the board! Video ahoy!

Another question was this: “Pinkie Pie is sad. What would you do to cheer her up?”

That one still sticks out because of something Pinkie Guy (remember him?) said to me one night. He had asked me if I was approached by people asking questions, to which I replied no. We surmised that the questioners were probably surveyors for Family Feud, and Pinkie Guy mentioned that they had tried to ask him a question. However, the questioner could only get the words “Pinkie Pie” out before Pinkie Guy responded “Explosions!”

“Are you sure?” the questioner had asked.

Yeah, Pinkie Guy had replied: “Whenever Pinkie Pie is involved, there has to be explosions.”

Returning to Family Feud, when they asked that question, I knew that “Explosions” would end up being on the board somewhere. And the board didn’t disappoint. It wasn’t the number one answer, but it was up there! Memory serving, it was counted alongside “Party Cannon”. Where on the board was it? Unfortunately, I didn’t take a photo or video, so unless the answer is hiding somewhere in someone else’s memory or in BronyCon’s ginormous gallery of pictures, the world will never know.

But here’s a question that I did take a picture of. Whom would you not expect to break into song?

A few of the answers made perfect sense: Big Mac. Derpy (a/k/a Muffins).

At least one answer made no sense: Rainbow Dash. (She has singing roles in at least four songs in the series, for Celestia’s sake!)

And the number one answer? See for yourself.

Yep. Maud Pie.

Another question: What would be the worst thing that could happen to Equestria?

19 of the people surveyed must have been trolls, Luna fans, or Celestia haters, as the number two answer was “Celestia’s reign”!

The number one answer was “Tirek’s return,” but there were a few funny answers mixed in.

Apologies for the blurry picture. The answers, in order:

1. Tirek’s Return

2. Celestia’s Reign

3. Chrysalis!!!

4. Discord Un-Reforms

5. Nightmare Moon

6. Pinkie Pie Snaps

7. Sombra’s Resurrection

The very last question of Family Feud was “Who is best student?”

There were ten answers, so of course the answers could not have been limited to the Student Six.

During the competition, the tech guys botched one of the answers and revealed “Scootaloo.” That freebie went to the McColts.

For whatever reason, neither team thought of completing the CMC for some easy points!

Some of the Young Six were on the board, but not all of them.

As both teams struck out, the audience exuberantly read the answers as they got revealed, culminating with the number one answer:
TWILIGHT SPARKLE!!!

Answers:

1. Twilight Sparkle

2. Sunset Shimmer

3. Starlight Glimmer

4. Yona

5. Silverstream

6. Ocellus

7. Apple Bloom

8. Sweetie Belle

9. Scootaloo

10. Smolder

The McColts won the game, 536 to 474.
