Why Do Inexperienced Fic-ers Progress So Fast?! Too Much RFP!! · 10:19pm Nov 4th, 2018
Hello, everyone.
So I've been reading a lot of stories on Fimfiction lately. Mainly some that make no sense, but that's what Fimfiction's about. Altering the times and lines. Some stories move slow, some move fast. A great example would be of my story titled Mystery Scootaloo, where Scootaloo is actually a human. Now before you guys go and begin biting my head off, let me make it clear why this story is different than most HiE stories. A majority of them start off with he character originally being from Earth, and somehow being teleported or something into Equestria. I absolutely hate stories like that. The only stories I would approve of that happening are Second Chances, Many Changes by ASGEEK2012, Off The Record by THE KING OF HEARTS, the latter story being an insanely long one with many arcs and respite that were put into separate stories. And but not least, Soaring on Little Wings by TOM117z. Loved all of these. Especially his works, a true fan of the Change Series and can't wait for the next installment. Hopefully, I can get in contact with some of these guys and talk about a collaboration sometime. I hve a bunch of stories planned for 2019, and I can't wait to get them out.
But back on topic. The reason Mystery Scootaloo is different is because it started off with Scootaloo's parents' background actually being born into Equestria and accidentally flying into Earth. Scootaloo is originally born there, then a catastrophic event takes her back to Equestria, turning her into a foal, where she meets her relatives, and unfortunately leaving her parents behind and inheriting their legacy. As well as solving a mystery around their disappearance. It's really complex. Unfortunately, I've become a victim of Rapid Fiction Progression in that story and Queen Scootaloo a tad bit. AKA, RFP. When a writer crams too much into one chapter without any background, exposition, or introductions. Sometimes I do the same in my stories, but eventually I correct it by adding more things into the chapters to lead up to that point in the future.
The Scoota Finale—which is still incomplete—is an amazing example of this. But kind of too amazing. I think I made around twenty chapters of background for it before I finally got to the main story. It was really long, detailed, romantic, dark, and sad. Most of the readers of that story can vouch for that. But eventually I made it to the best bit. Let it be know those bits are still being planned. I use a service called Trello to plan out my fics, as well as Google Drive(Docs). But in the past, I used to write off of what I see in my head. Like right now, I have a Rated-M fic coming out in March about Midnight Sparkle in Equestria. And Rise Scootaloo in May 2019. Maybe sooner. I never just write fanfics and not have any exposition. Well... Most of the time. That's why in the future a majority of my stories will have over six-thousand word chapters. The chapter with the most for Twilight Daylight will be released at Five PM on November twenty-third with an expected word count of twenty-thousand. Because I'm jut trying to get to the Wedding and Code Black Arc, for those who have read the story.
Anyway, when I turn a page in these fics, I want there to be some exposition, with a word count of at least one-hundred thousand so it's actually an adventure an not a thirty-minute read, and has some emotion and slice of life in it. Sad, sentimental, characters-talking-to-themselves moments. Stories that will place crazy action scenes in my mind that will make the movie 2012 look like it was made by a kindergartner. Build the house first before you start adding furniture, okay guys? Geez. I like a good story. But that's the thing.
I like a good story, not Everybody Poops.
P.S. We should really make the term RFP an acronym. Seriously, but it's really common here on Fimfiction. And to be honest, all fanfictions.
