Journey to Midnight Castle Writing Advice: Tirek's Ritual

Okay, in Journey to Midnight Castle, Tirek is suppose to perform a ritual involving captured ponies, the Rainbow of Darkness, and Nightmare Moon, to bring forth eternal night. But since in JTMC, Celestia is in control of both the Sun and Moon, how can this ritual work? Any advice?

Writing advice for Journey to Midnight Castle: Archmage

In my story 'Journey to Midnight Castle', I planned for Twilight to become an Archmage in the Coronation. Basically, every four years, Princess Celestia chooses one of her most promising students to become an Archmage, but I need ideas on how to make the Archmage more powerful than a normal mage.

Writing advice for Journey to Midnight Castle: Archmage · 4:29pm Oct 27th, 2018

In my story 'Journey to Midnight Castle', I planned for Twilight to become an Archmage in the Coronation. Basically, every four years, Princess Celestia chooses one of her most promising students to become an Archmage, but I need ideas on how to make the Archmage more powerful than a normal mage.

Edit: By the way, the Coronation takes place in Chapter 1, before Nightmare Moon returns to Equestria.

You could give the archmage some sort of special powers granted by the princesses. Like from luna a resistence against the corupting sort of magic and so on. So could the archmage be the only mage with the abilety to controll and learn all branches of magic

Yeah. Increased resistance from the corrupting forces of certain types of magic, the ability to learn and control magic from ALL the branches and extra powers granted by the Princesses WOULD be a good start.

In addition, being able to use telekinesis, telepathy, transmutation, teleportation, healing magic and fire and ice magic at levels that can be ONLY topped by the Princesses themselves would ALSO be good (i.e. the sorts of spells most mages would know, but at a level that is AT LEAST twenty times higher than the level of a normal mage, but only one-fourth Cadance's level and one-twentieth the level of either Celestia or Luna).

Actually, Luna's Nightmare Moon in the story, and thus will not give Twilight powers. The Coronation I'm referring to here has nothing to do with Twilight becoming a princess. In fact, I have a different idea for Twilight's alicornhood.

It was only an example. I dont really know how you plan this story out nor have I read the first chapter, so its up to you, like I said luna was only an example

How about Celestia giving Twilight some magic enhancing gem or artifact that increases Twilight's power.

Yeah. I could see that.

Anyway, "Archmage" ideas (both from me AND from others who already responded to this):

The ability to control and learn ALL branches of magic.

Increased resistance to certain types of magic (like, for example, Celestia could grant increased resistance to fire magic [as her domain is the sun] and Cadance could grant increased resistance to mind-based magic [especially "artificial love spells"])

Telekinesis at a level that is topped ONLY by the Princesses themselves (at least twenty times higher than a normal mage [and a normal mage's magic level is at least twenty times higher than the average unicorn], but only one-twentieth the level of either Celestia or Luna)

A range of spells possessed by normal mages (bringing inanimate objects to life temporarily, future vision, teleportation, telepathy, transmutation, healing spells, fire spells and ice spells), but at a FAR higher level than a normal mage (even if NOT at the levels of one of the Princesses) plus at least a few additional spells most mages DON'T know (such as temporarily boosting the strength, speed and durability of chosen allies, empathic power mimicry [meaning they can temporarily duplicate the abilities of certain individuals providing it is done with their full knowledge and permission], freezing time for a few seconds within a limited distance, cloning magic and temporarily shrinking certain enemies [i.e. enemies that DO NOT have a magic resistance high enough to make the spell ineffective] in size and proportionate physical ability up to 24fold)

and a mystic artifact that can increase magical ability (which is entrusted only to individuals who have already proven that they can consistently use extremely strong magic responsibly).

So, yeah, hopefully, this is helpful concerning the "archmage" deal
