Why Sci-Twi is the worst character. · 1:41pm Oct 26th, 2018

And i don't mean she's the worst EG character or even MLP character. She's the worst character I've ever seen anywhere. Here's why:

She's the dumbest character in the series.

One might say this title belongs to Snips and Snails. While their foolishness in Boast Busters was so big it was harmful to others, I can see some logic in their thinking. They bring the Ursa to Ponyville, The Great and Powerful Trixie vanquishes it, everypony enjoys the show, nopony gets hurt.

However, Twilight's "research" in Friendship Games includes no thinking process. At the beggining we learn that she wants to learn about bizarre energy she detected coming from CHS during the Fall Formal and the Battle of the Bands. Wouldn't asking someone who was there what exactly happened be a good way to start? Apparently not. Why bother with collecting data like it would be something scientists do. Instead, she built a device to collect that energy to do more research. I respect that. She would have to do that anyway because eye-witness testimony isn't very valuable evidence in science. It is still some evidence that would give her some data and she should't ignore it like that.

Although, how could she build that device and not know how it works? If collecting energy on its own isn't how it suppoused to work its broken and she should stop using it immediately after seeing it, especialy because she knew nothing about what she's working with.

Another reason to stop is she needed only a sample. But she decides to steal all the magic, even though she does't need to.

Third reason to stop running everywhere with that necklace is safety of hers and others that she completely ignored. The fact that she knows nothing about subject of her research is good enough reason to be concerned. Spike disappearing behind a big rift in space is undeniable evidence that her research is dangerous. He disappeared and he could never come back. She almost lost her dog. For some reason for Twilight it's not enough to be concerned and we see her with the neclace later on the race track where magic from her opened necklace caused mayhem and she and four other students were put in mortal danger. This made her think about safety as much as even Sunset bluntly saying that playing with magic is dangerous and she should stop - it didn't.

All of that is nothing compared to what she did at the end. She unleashes the magic, and that's when her stupidity reaches its peak. Why she had done it is beyond my understanding. Everyone blames Principal Cinch and Shadowbolts for that, but that's bullshit. It's not like she couldn't disobey, not give in to the pressure and do the right thing. Even if it would be the real reason it can't justify putting everyone in danger.

We can find the real reason why she did that in Twilights part of "Unleash the Magic". The short version of what the song says is: "if you unleash the magic you will have opportunity to learn about it and we will win." It's quite similar in Twilights part:

"Imagine all I'll learn by setting it free
And now winning these games depends on me
And what doors might open if I try to use it
But the magic's what I really want to see"

We see here that one reason is winning the games and we've learned before that Twilight cares about that only because of her application to Everton depends on it.

Second and the main reason is Twilight wants to learn about magic and she's certain that setting it free is the best way to do it. As I said before, eye-witness testimony is worthless evidence in science and Twilight wanted it to be the only way of collecting data. It shows us how much Twilight knows about doing a research. Can you imagine an article in respected science magazine that says: "Magic exists. I know because I saw it."? This crap could only exists on conspiracy theory websites. Real scientist would do some tests, measurements, experiments, repeat them many times and get as much hard evidence as possible, and write every detail of the research down or record it in different ways so other scientists could repeat it. Collecting the magic was excellent way to do that. It's already one good hard evidence necessary for any further research. But Twilight decided to get rid of it. As I said before, no logic found.

I wonder how could she be this stupid when the series gave her the role of teenage genius. Making her this dumb serves opposite purpouse, and it's not like she's made like that by accident. Sunset yelling at Twilight proves that it was writers' concious decision, even though makes no sense.

There's also her archery skill. She didn't have problem with how to aim like everyone having a bow in their hands would, but where to aim. One would think the best student in good high school uderstands basic physics.

She's overpowered.

Midnight Sparkle is one the most powerful character in whole MLP series and that doesn't fit how she got that power. Magicless girl with no idea what she's doing became more powerful than Tirek, magical centaur who stole magic from everypony in entire Equestria inluding horse godesses with ability to move the Sun and the Moon. Midnight Sparkle may have cool edgy design, but her power level is too high.

She almost did a thing more evil than any other MLP villain and got away with it unpunished.

She almost destroyed two universes and killed everyone in there. How many lives she would end? I tried to count every character FiM, EG and the movie but I gave up. Let's just say it's a lot of lives. And they would be gone. Forever, with no way to bring them back. All because some dumb girl wanted to play scientist.

The most outrageous thing about Sci-Twi is unrealistic reaction to her stupid and harmful actions from every EG character.

No one sees her as stupid. No one realised that the reason why they almost got killed is her stupidity. We even hear Fluttershy unironicly saying: "We know you're genius".

After the display of her responsibility she's still trusted in doing practical science. She even got huge private lab. She's also trusted by Principal Celestia in things like keeping an eye on the class when she has to leave for a moment or in taking care of her plants.

No one thinks she's stupid and no one thinks she's guilty. Every EG character blames Principal Cinch like it's her fault Twilight listened to her. Twilight makes her own decisions. She could either obey or disobey. She made a choice and should face consequences of it. It's one hundred percent Twilights fault.

There's nothing she can use to justify her behaviour. After all the main reasons why she choose to set the magic free were her desires to be accepted to Everton and to learn about magic. She was rather calm when she walked to the middle to "do science", so we can't say she did it because of some emotions made her not thinking straight. Her decision was concious.

She justified her actions by saying: "I didn't mean any of this to happen." What did she mean to happen then? She wouln't learn anything just like she didn't when she had seen the magic six times before while collecting it. What would change this time? And how did she wanted to use magic to win the games? Every time she had seen the magic in action it was nothing but dangerous. She said herself she don't understand how it works. I see the only way she could use magic to win the games is by using it to kill the Wondercolts and herself since she would be the closest to the device. Was that her plan? Is that what she meant to happen?

No one thinks she's guilty to the point they lie about what really happened at Friendship Games. There is a scene in Legend of Everfree when Sunset says Twilight is not guilty, Principal Cinch is. I already explained why that's not true.

This unrealistic treatment looks even worse when we compare it to how Sunset is treated in Friendship Games. Yelling at Twilight is besides taking the device away from her, the best thing anyone could do. But for some reason Sunset is shown as the bad one. She thinks she should apologise Twilight and everyone agrees. Moral of the story:
Unintencional genocide-good
Protecting your friends-bad.

Sunset also blames herself for magic going haywire and not being able to control it, even after she learned that Twilight is causing all the trouble. Everyone's guilty, only Twilight isn't.

She's whiny and annoying.

That's her problem from the beggining when we see how she's treated as an outcast by her shoolmates without any particular reason. Then in Legend of Everfree she cries through whole movie because she had a bad dream.. It's happening time and time again in shorts and specials. I mean things like I can't read a message, students don't think I can invent a cold fusion, Sunset broke my drone by accident, Sunset yelled at me, my friends are in the water. etc.

She has bad love story with Timber

It's maybe not that bad. Dumb, irresponsible and annoying girl and irresponsible boy that annoys everyone with his dumb one-liners? They make a perfect couple. Now they only need to leave the series together and EG will be fine again.

Legend of Everfree is highly focused on fixing Twilights character, but it fails.

This is the reson for many things i already mentioned.

That's why she gets a boyfriend. Timber is annoying by himself and together with Twilight they're almost painful to watch. What is enjoyable in seeing how Twilight blushes when Timber says one of his terrible pick-up lines?

She's so whiny so we would feel bad for her, but unlike Sunset in Rainbow Rocks she doesn't have any real reason to be sad. That is just unnecessary filler in movie that looks even worse when she ends whole problem with one talk with her friends. Instead feeling bad for her I'm just begging her to stop whining and shut the hell up.

The thing with Gloriosa turning into a demon by being corrupted by magic is made to be analogy to Twilight turning into Midnight Sparkle. They make Gloriosa not responsible for what she's done while being a demon so we wouldn't blame Twilight for trying to destroy two universes. This is the only thing done to fix Twilight I approve. I don't see why Twilight would want to do that. That was Midnights goal.

However, the thing that gets none of my approval is characters lying about what happened and treating Twilight so unrealistically. Twilight is guilty and no lies can change that.

She's unnecessary.

EG already had Princess Twilight there, and Sunset was filling the role of the leader of the group Princess Twilight has in her group of friends. Now, after Sci-Twi joined the group EG main cast has two Twilights clones, and the original appearing now and then. That's too many of them. Sci-Twi shouldn't be put there, especially after she turned out to be such a failure.

At the end i wonder if she can be called mary sue. She does get unrealistic reactions from the world. CHS-the good ones becomes friends with her instantly. Crystal Prep-the bad ones don't like her without reason, even push her on the corridor when she's just walking minding her own buisness. Principal Cinch was blackmailing her and for that she is made guilty for everythingthat happened, even though she's only guilty of blackmail. Twilight is the only one who gets a real romantic relationship. Sunset who antagonised her is told to be wrong for doing that. If you compare it to the definition in writing guide you will see that many things about her, especially how she's treated by the world fits the definition.
