A Note

Already made this public on the Peoples' Republic of Horsewords, so I'll just repeat it here:
There's not going to be any writing out of me for a bit. Last Friday my father-in-law passed away after a long illness, so I haven't really been up to writing, and the chapter I'd planned to release on Friday pushed all the wrong buttons emotionally. I did have a chapter [of meanwhile....] ready to go, but I was debating whether or not I should release the chapter, given that last Friday was also my wife's birthday (yeah, you can imagine the roller coaster we went through on Friday.) Given that I'm doing a lot of the funeral planning and estate issues, that takes precedence.

Thanks for any condolences and the like, but I need to focus on my family right now. I can't promise anything new will come out before Thanksgiving, but I'll try.

I'm going to tell you to do the Mexican thing and celebrate the old man's life, and find some join in the fact that, after a long illness, he is no longer suffering. So much so if the illness also wore the family raw.
The Day of the Dead is just next week, so choose a good photo for your altar!

Yup, lost my grandfather in a similar way a few years ago, so I have an idea of what that's like ( though somehow I don't think I ever mentioned it to you). I'm sure you already know this, but the rest of your friends and I are all here if you ever need to talk. Or post something stupid to distract you with. Whatever works really!

Your error could come from here:
"Vela": candle
"Velar": to perform something all night, usually a funeral or to look after an ill person. The verb is usually intransitive, but it can be made transitive. "Velé el teléfono." "I stayed up all night waiting by the phone."
"Velatorio": a funerary home
"Velorio": a funeral
