This is a sad blog post.
In the halcyon days of the Brony fandom, at the height of 2012, Brony merch could be found everywhere.
I don't mean pony merch. I mean pony merch targeted at adult men. Such as these men's pajamas. [Link]
And I, like many brave Bronies bought these things. And used them. Because what joy is there in having a thing if not to use it? To enjoy it for its intended purpose? So I wore my men's size medium Dash pajamas just as often as I could. Especially when I was writing! They were just the softest, most comfortable leg wear I had ever known.
Eventually, the cuffs started to fray. So I hemmed them. (I can sew). And they frayed again. Eventually they looked like capris, and then shorts. Until finally the crotch seam just disintegrated to the point that neither I, nor even Rarity could save them. My favorite pair of pajamas are dead, and I can't find another pair anywhere.
As I sit and look at the tattered remains of my once proud Dash jammies, I can't help but wonder, what if, perhaps, I had worn them just a little less often. If perhaps, I were less rough on them somehow. If I could have made it last just a bit longer.
Then I consider my pony t-shirts. Most I have displayed on hangers on my walls. A few I have never worn. And I wonder, is that really better? Do I really regret enjoying my pajamas? Or my long dead Brony wallet? I knew I was rough on wallets, so I bought two at the time. But now even my second one is looking...
... not so good.
I sit here, writing this in my pony bathrobe, wondering how long it will be before this, too, leaves me. It is still in great condition. But for how long. How many years? I look at my collection of ponies on my shelves. Most are still mint in package. Never getting to live the life they were meant to as a toy. As a vehicle of imagination, playing out their stories through the play of a child. I wonder how long it will be until I open each one, just to brush their mane for the first time. To get, if but for a moment, that faint rush of euphoric ecstasy that was to be a Brony in the pink aisle in the golden days. Like some poor coke fiend, snorting the dusty remnants of a line off of a urinal in the gas station men's room. But the joy is gone. Like dust in the wind.

I still have those pajamas. They're torn, but still wearable. I got them off ThinkGeek on a whim a couple years ago. (They aren't there anymore, I just checked.) They are quite comfy, and I hope they last a little while longer.
