Music Recommendation — 'The Mariner's Revenge Song' · 5:00pm Oct 21st, 2018

Usually not a shanty type dude, but damn, I really liked this one.

Tad~ bit on both the long and the dark side, though, so be sure you're in the mood for that. But, hey, less then two weeks from Halloween, right? If it's fitting for any time of year, it should be this one.

(Band itself is named 'The Decemberists.' by the way, but they seem to have a very limited online presence. Couldn't even find an official YouTube channel. Animatic by Glittersharks, who sadly hasn't done much more then this one, but oh well.)

Slyph's Castle of Shadows and Pegasus Device are always good this time of year.
Or try Hooves Up High (Living Tombstone's remix) or CarbonMaestro's Sun.
For all I know, you've heard them -- most are several years old now -- but they've always been my favorites.

I don't know about the shanty. It's not bad, but the singers could use a bit more enunciation. :applejackunsure:

Or, if you like Irish music, try The Rising Of The Moon (despite the name, there is no relation to any pastel princesses). It's one of those old military songs about a defeat and having the courage to do it again anyway.

I'm a sucker for when somebody goes the extra mile for authenticity in playing a character—and this singer really sounds like a kid that's heard some big words and spent a lot of time thinking on this one moment, but never actually had to pronounce any of them before.

Because, well, you don't really talk with your fellow street-urchins, a priest or your fellow sailors about your burning desire for revenge, right? Not if it genuinely is burning a hole where your heart used to be, and you intend to see justice done.

I mean, to be fair, it could be because the singer is a kid trying to squeak out some big words for the first time, but hey, Still credit where it's due in writing to your strengths even in that case.

It's like... that poor intern Stanley Cubric hired for a week to actually type out 'No fun and no play makes Jack a dull boy' over and over again on a real type-writer. The sane, logical and arguably professional way to do it would have been to do one page and photocopy the rest, but that wouldn't have been nearly as... well, artistically interesting and memorable.
