Revising Fanfics + Feedback Thingo + Editing Talk · 5:06pm Oct 20th, 2018
I think I've mentioned in a recent blog that I've been working on a revision for Favorable Alignment, because I found some things (a short list of things, but still) that weren't up to par and really looked like they were in need of just... a once-over, of sorts. That story is by far my favorite of all my works, and I would like it to reflect that. Hence the revisions, when I have the time for them (and cramming in updates for Enemy of Mine because that is a thing, also). So far, I've been able to get through 20+ chapters of the revision, so if you're an update freak who really wants to see the super cool revised chapters go ahead and call 1-900-490-FREAK click here and devour the first 23 or so chapters to see the improvements.
Obviously, no story is perfect, but I do try to have a certain level or readability. (Seriously, I think it's obvious by now that there are times I've published hour-prompt types of stories.) I'd hope most people do, when they write. So, I want Favorable Alignment to be the best pile of 360,000~ words it can be in honor of its status as The Word Child. (Also, I may hate editing but it's important. I will hate editing until I die.)
However, there's obviously multiple reasons this blog exists other than to promote my incomplete revision, and it's the reason I haven't tagged Favorable Alignment as the related story here. I'm not the sort to scream that I have to revise an entire story because of a single imperfection, but I've done overall improvements on most of my other longer stories. Nearly all my novellas have had one because of Improvement Stuff, and hooray, there's author satisfaction and other goodness as a result.
I think it's also pretty clear at this point that I tend to write Things With Sequels. I know a lot of people like to download multiple, completed long stories on FIMFic and binge 'em like any old e-book you heathens. I'm not sure that any of my readers have done that, though.
So:
-Have you downloaded my stuff before to read like that?
-Have you read the revisions of my horseword florp? Either on the site or off it?
-Have you had problems with either?
I'd like to know because it would help me out in figuring out if someone else really thinks that (for some reason) another revision of X long story could be needed because that'd be really embarrassing, y'know?
I'm really sure that they're just fine, but who knows.
I downloaded Crystalline as a wonderful .txt and read that for a bit.
I don't think I've read the revisions.
And most of your stories are ones I can sit down with and read in one sitting; they're so short that it's just a bit too cumbersome to put on my phone when I know I can read them as soon as I get home.
I've yet to get around to reading Favorable Alignment, but with that word count, it would probably find itself on my mobile device.

>wonderful .txt
poor bby planet
I guess that only really big wordbois get that treatment, then. Though, I was thinking that when your series wordcount is 500k~ for an arc, people might want to. This helps, though.
Hard to pack around a desktop to read on the go or out of the house.
How big of revisions are we talking? If its something minor I probably won't end up reading it again, though if its a something like a total rewrite, I'm reading it again.
No. Why would anyone have a problem with it?

I was under the impression that all my readers were wizards.
A while ago, the first three novellas (among a couple other stories) in the first arc of the Iceverse had some scenes tweaked, dialogue altered, grammar fixed, prose polished, etc. If you've read them since then, you'll have seen this.
If the stories didn't look right/seemed sloppy, more or less. Related issues.
