(waves) Yep. Still here! · 1:45am Oct 17th, 2018

Hello everyone! This is just a blog post to let you know that I am, in fact, still around. Also, more importantly, I am writing another story. It's just been slow-going. The simple explanation for my recent silence is just that I've been getting used to my new job. Part of that is just adjusting to a new routine, and the other part is the crushing existential angst of switching careers and wondering if I made the right decision and just need to grow into it, or if I'm just settling for this job because it pays and has benefits, so that'll be enough to keep me doing it for the next 20 years. :rainbowderp:

...So, yeah, my next story will be about existential angst. :yay:

And robots. Existential angst is better with robots.

...Everything is better with robots.

best of luck with the new jorb!

You got this man, hope things are working well!

There's always a three-way bit to starting a new job (or continuing one you've had for a while)
1 - Do the absolute best you can, pick up the routine, and do it right. The Boss wants that.
2 - If there's a career path upwards, keep that in mind with training opportunities and making sure that even if you take that step today, the person who steps into your shoes finds all of the drawers labelled, the projects kept by their checklists, and any past projects documented.
3 - Be aware that not all jobs work out, and keep friends even with total jerks. If you get fired, it will most likely catch you totally flat-footed. Put away a nest egg and grow it. That's your KMA money. Cultivate friendships and keep names and phone numbers someplace other than your work phone. Those are your "I just got fired. Do you know of any positions open around that I might fill?" people. Don't hop jobs unless it is ABSOLUTELY a good move, at which point #1 and #2 will come in handy.

4 - For God's sake, put as much into the 401K as you earthly can, and under no circumstances raid it for spending money if you get fired and are looking for a new job.

You know there's a blog post getting in the way of the tags?:ajsmug:
