Dear Princess Celestia,
This weekend I learned what rum tastes like. It's yummy. Whiskey is better, though.

Full disclosure, I am not very experienced with either drink yet. The whiskies I've had so far are Maker's Mark and Jameson's. Between the two I preferred the Irish whiskey. And then the weekend adventures this post is about were started by a bottle of Appleton Signature Blend. I'm afraid you're right that I haven't had any scotch.
If you have any recommendations for rums and whiskies I would love to hear (and taste) them.
Cheers.

Jameson's about as good as you can get outside of very expensive special orders from Ireland, unless you have relatives there.
As for rum, I am admittedly biased, but my favourite is Bundaberg Rum. Straight out of Queensland, Australia, it goes down smooth.
There's also the 2015 Blender's Edition, which won the 2015 World's Best. I have a sealed bottle that I'm aging, so I couldn't tell you what it's like.
