Story Spotlight - A Different Sunset · 12:57am Oct 7th, 2018
So, I thought might shed some light on some of my favourite stories, some woefully underappreciated. Might even try and make this a weekly thing.
So, let's start with A Different Sunset by Evowizard.
An interesting take on the whole 'Different Elements AU' thing. It incorporates a LOT different things. Warhammer references. Doctor Who, Dinotopia... It's quite the hodgepodge of different things.
Yet it works. Evo manages to create and interesting and rather fresh AU, to a concept that's been done before. Sunset Shimmer is the Element of Magic. And unlike her purple counterpart... She's stubborn, self-centered and sometimes downright mean. But, seeing her overcome these selfish tendencies and start working to become a functioning member of society and a better friend is a treat to read. And it's not something that happens overnight. Afterall, changing is something can take time, and patience.
Mind you, the story is rather violent and some ponies do NOT have a happy ending. It could also use a little work in the editing department, but me complaining about THAT would be the pot calling the kettle black.
After the main story, he starts adding little 'episodic' fics. One's that are either original, or a parody of a canon friendship lesson.
In my opinion, the best thing about this 'verse is the Worldbuilding. Evowizard has put an amazing amount of effort into it, to keep everything cohesive and flowing. Everyone has their place and while it's a BIG jigsaw, it all fits nicely where it's supposed to.
Overall, I'd recommend this story to anyone who wants a good action piece to read with a good deal of future potential.
How do you embed a story's short description like that?
5006714 - I can't recall. I'll check when I have access to my pc in the morning. Stupid phone won't let me edit blogs.
5006714 - Okay! So, on the bar at the top while editing, you'll find a button called 'Add embedded content'. Simply add the story's URL to the popup box and voila!
