The Ghost of Blog Post(s) Future · 5:58am Oct 5th, 2018

I haven't got much to report on, but felt like checking in (which in and of itself is a rarity). It's looking very likely that my story-in-progress will be my longest to date, possibly topping 30k. Time will tell.

There are 77 days left in the contest, which I know is still a small eternity if you're planning on a 3k one-shot, but if you have more ambitious ideas then please plan accordingly. So far there are exactly zero entries submitted, but again it's still early to panic. I'll panic just a tiny bit.

Along with stories that I'd like to write, I have a list of blog ideas that I never seem to get around to, partly because I prioritize stories, and partly because I generally don't like writing about myself. Still, if it's that hard to do then it's likely something I should work on. Let me throw these ideas out there and see what you think:

1. Write proper afterwards to lots of my stories, particularly the major ones like Water Pony, Cleave, etc. This is less about what stories I feel deserve some bloggery and more about what stories I have some ancillary information / war stories to share.
2. Offer writing advice tidbits that I haven't seen trumpeted everywhere already.
3. Write recommendation posts for stories I feel are exemplary. I don't really care if post several stories by the same author, an author that's incredibly popular, or somebody totally unknown. This feels a tad bit like a one-pony Royal Canterlot Library, without the clout or credibility.
4. Write some recommendation posts for non-pony novels. Crazy, right? I listen to audiobooks during my workday commute, and on (sadly) rarer occasions devour print directly.

But then we come to the other reason I don't spend a lot of time on blog posts: none of the 600+ people following me did so because I hand out neat writing advice, reading recommendations, or the like. The primary reason people follow me is the stories I've produced. That's kind of how I like it. I'm rambling now, and it's late…

Write proper afterwards

Should be "afterwords", I think? ;p
Either way, both recommendation posts and afterwords would be nice to see, in my opinion.

I'll read it!

I wouldn't mind reading recommendations for stories from your The Very Best bookshelf.
