I witnessed a car accident today · 8:40pm Oct 1st, 2018
This happened right in front of me this morning. I drove to work, and suddenly I look up and it looks like the cars explode. It looked like a new years rocket, just infinitely more startling. heck, the front light of one car landed behind mine, and I was about 20 metres away. And that piece was three times the size of my head.
Fortunately, nobody died. as far as I know, but the crash was so bad that both drivers were locked inside and "heavily injured" as an article later stated. I very consciously tried to avoid looking as they were pulled out. I seriously did not want to get a look at real-life gore.
which wasnt the case, at least in the case of one driver, an elderly women. She was unconscious as she was rescued. I didnt know that at the time though.
Besides the crash happening in the first place though, everyone was INSANELY lucky. You see, I just drove to the side of the rode, taking a few seconds to comprehend what happened, when I realized "HOLY SHIT, I HAVE TO DO FIRST AID!" I barely remembered the class I took to get a drivers license, and, I must admit, I would have hesitated several more seconds at the least if there was no legal requirement for me to help. I'm ashamed to admit that this was the first thought that drove me to get out of my car.
Luckily, thats the second an ambulance drove past. the road this took place in LUCKILY just has ambulances drive there, I think just on regular business, the drivers did at some point mention they weren't expecting to drive to a deployment.
anyway, they eventually told me and two other witnesses to speak with two lightly dazed people who sat in the back of the bigger car, while they tried to pry out the two drivers. After a few minutes, the entire road was full with more ambulances, police, firefighters, it would have been cool if I'd known everyone was actually fine. There was a helicopter making pictures from above, too.
anyway, I finally talked to the police, gave witness and was eventually allowed to leave.
Personally, I'm fine now. It seemed that nobody has died, I was not involved in the accident personally and remain completely unharmed. I just wanted to share this. Has anyone else ever been in or witnessed an accident like this? Cause holy fuck I was right behind that car!
