My computer is dying. I bought it about 4 months ago, because the price was dirt cheap, and because I needed a replacement after my previous computer had a cascade failure in its motherboard, and components. The iMac was 9 years old when I bought it, but a lot of Macs have a reputation for being long distance runners, so I hoped that it would last me a year or two while I saved up for another PC.
Unfortunately, that has not happened. After testing the hardware, I have found that the motherboard is failing, and it's causing a whole host of issues. I've managed to slap some metaphorical duct tape on things to keep it all going a little bit longer, but I'll get maybe another two months out of her, tops, before she gives out.
Replacing the motherboard on a 9 year old system would be silly, as everything is already way out of date, and mobos for old iMacs can get expensive. So I'm still going to keep to my original plan to save up and build myself a new computer. I'll just have to revise downward when it comes to expense. My original goal was $500, which would get me a solid PC with monitor and everything I needed. That way, I could guarantee myself a good 7-9 years of solid usage.
Now, though, that is too far out of reach.
That said, I'm going to keep trying to write and publish the story, but if you suddenly see a complete halt of updates for a while, please don't be mad. I'm already dealing with the full time caregiver duties for two family members, and now this is just icing on the crappy cake.
