No real need. Your own characters do really well on their own. I can't really comment on who you should use more of though, because I'm kinda... two chapters behind.

Plus depending on which season they're from, the main 6 kinda start getting too OP around season... 5 or so. So it might be less pleasant for us readers to read and go "O NO U DIDN TWITTLES COULD BLOW IT ALL UP HERSELF SEE S12E35 RESPEC CANON" than if our reaction was "Why, that is an OC, of whom I have no preconceived notions of what they may be capable of. I shall rationally consider all possibilities, and accept their limitations as the author wishes me to." There's a reason some authors avoid using canon main characters... it takes a special kind of crazy to write your vision of a popular character you didn't create, knowing you're gonna offend someone in doing so.

Of course... my latest "vision" of Twilight Sparkle as a backstabbing, megalomaniacal psychopath probably offends a few more people than your average usage of canon.
