Commander TwentyNeighTeen, Take II · 1:37am Sep 4th, 2018
Continued off from my last post, I’ve spent the Labor Day weekend further refining the Commander set concept, which I might possibly one day expand to become a full mock-set in the style of official Commander products.
With these tweaks in mind, I’ve done some revisions, added two new alternate commanders for each deck, and even added a fifth deck concept to the set. After much time spent tweaking the designs, here’s what I have:
Deck: Arcane Royalty
Primary Commander:
Twilight, Soul of Magic 2URW
+2: Draw a card, then discard a card. If an instant or sorcery card is discarded this way, draw another card.
-3: Exile target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard. Copy that card, except the copy has lifelink. You may cast the copy this turn.
-12: Exile up to one instant or sorcery card from your hand. At the beginning of each of your upkeeps for the rest of the game, if it isn't an extra turn, copy the exiled card and you may cast the copy without paying its mana cost.Twilight, Soul of Magic can be your commander.
4
Secondary Commander:
Sun-Tail, War Calligrapher 2URW
Legendary Creature — Fox Samurai
First strike; vigilance; bushido 2 (When this blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +2/+2 until end of turn)
Whenever Sun-Tail, War Calligrapher attacks, reveal the top card of your library. If it’s an instant or sorcery card, you may cast it without paying its mana cost. Otherwise, draw a card.
“She thinks she can kill us with a brush! What a joke!”
— Bandit Lord Yamamuro, last words2/3
Tertiary Commander:
Martello, Envoy of Trest URW
Legendary Creature — Elf Advisor
Whenever an opponent draws one or more cards, you gain 1 life.
Whenever an opponent or a permanent an opponent controls becomes the target of a spell or ability, each other player draws a card.
“Apologies, but I’m afraid Leovold isn’t available. Now, shall we discuss the terms of our arrangement?”

Deck: Vital Equinox
Primary Commander:
Sunset, Radiant Dusk 1RWB
Legendary Planeswalker — Sunset
0: Create Sunset Flare, a legendary 3/3 red and white Elemental Avatar creature token with vigilance, lifelink, and haste.
-2: Scry 1. If you gained life this turn, draw a card.

Sunset, Radiant Dusk can be your commander.

2/3
Tertiary Commander:
Captain Valenta, Defector 3RWB
Legendary Creature — Vampire Pirate
First strike, lifelink, menace
Whenever a nontoken creature you control attacks, create a 2/2 black Vampire Pirate creature token with lifelink and menace that’s tapped and attacking.

Someone fetch me my brown pants.
Very cool designs. I hadn't even considered the infinite turn potential with Twilight until now. And it's honestly kind of amusing to imagine the commanders of each deck hanging out together. Poor Wallflower... though between the mulch and the exotic biology, she might actually enjoy the experience.

There’s a story behind Cylia here, which I might include in a series of blurbs if I finish this mock-set. Probably something like:
I still celebrate the fact, that Sunset got my favourite color combination :D
When will we get an actual villain or at least anti-hero ponywalker, Sunset doesn't really count in my eyes.
Or is something planned with Wallflower?
Sombra did't had an appearance or card yet, if I remember correctly, so he would work.
