Deities of AssassinationVerse: Uthur God of Yaks · 11:50am Sep 1st, 2018

9. Uthur, God of Yaks

Perhaps no god has ever been more disappointed in their creation then Uthur, whose people have utterly rejected him. Not because he doesn't care about them, like Centarus, but because they simply reject his way of life. Today, everyone knows of the violent, destructive, and outright selfish nature of the Yak tribes. Yet, everyone would be shocked to learn that their god, Uthur, is a pacifist. Uthur had always been disgusted by violence and bloodshed, believing it to be barbaric and cruel. Instead, he strove to learning about self-improvement, philosophy, and enlightenment. He believed that violence and other ill gotten emotions such as hatred, sorrow, selfishness, greed, and lust lead to suffering. Thus, when he created the Yaks, his first Prophet, Yudda, taught them the various paths, sutras, and meditations to avoid these emotions. For a few hundred years, the Yaks peacefully lived with one another developing a unique form of art, farming, and culture.

Sadly, when Grandus' griffins came to horde and attack them, they were left defenseless and ruined. Their cities crumbled without a proper army and due to their pacifist beliefs they had no desire to fight. Thus the Yaks became slaves to the griffin barbarians and suffered for forty years. They pleaded for their god to save them, but Uthur refused to do any violent actions and told his people to have faith. However, one Yak, named Yaktius Khan, refused to allow his kind to be weak and enslaved any longer. Feeding into his rage for the first time, Khan broke his chains by smashing them and urged his people to rebel. Flocking to him, the yaks fought a bloody revolution for their freedom, overthrowing their griffin overlords who had since lost to the Dragons by this point in time and became scattered. The Yaks reclaimed their land and even more in the process. Uthur's prophet at the time, Yunda, told them their god was angry, but Khan told him "Screw Our God, We Shall Make Our Own Destiny" and decapitated him. Rejecting Uthur for being weak, Khan declared the Yaks would bow to no creature nor god in the world and create their own fate.

Thus the Yaks began a culture formed around themselves with the belief that yaks were better then everything and those who didn't conform to yak ways were taken or smashed. Like a damn, the inner negative emotions of the Yaks were unleashed and they began to become the new barbarian army that smashed or took anything in their way. They fought everyone they could from ponies to griffins to dragons to zebra to changelings to wolves to more. Attempts to negotiate were lost as the yaks refused to trust outsiders in an effort to protect their culture and way of life for a second time. Uthur, horrified what his creations had done, rejected them just as they rejected him. The history of the Yaks is mostly unknown to the world, as most focus on their invasion and wars, but deep inside they care greatly about their families, their history, and their new way of life. All outsider inventions, cultures, and faiths are rejected out of a xenophobia. The Yaks also have many holidays such as the Day of Breaking Chains, in which all chains are smashed to remind them of their freedom of slavery, Khan Day, in which they honor their first King who lead them to what they are, and Stupid Uthur Day, which is a day to mock and ridicule Uthur.

Today, the Yaks continue to only fight against the griffins, who regained their lost territory long ago, while still keeping their borders closed. Uthur, alone in his Garden of Peace, meditates in silence.

Standing With Other Gods: Uthur is pitied for what happened to him, but despite them telling his inaction to fight for his people is the reason for all this, he still retains his belief that he was right.

Looks: Think the Buddha, but a Yak

Religious Structure: Originally, the religion of the Yaks was like Buddism, but since their rejection they have no center faith. They believe in ancestor worship and have shamans, though.

Afterlife: The Garden of Peace was the name of the Afterlife of the Yaks, but none had ever reached it. Uthur wanted those who were truly enlightened to be welcomed into his home and none, not even his first prophet, managed to reach his expectations. Since then, all yaks just reincarnate.

Never would have imagined the Yaks were weak once, or that their god was a pacifist.

A tragic tale, something that seems like a trend with these gods.

I agree. I kinda expect at one point the big three deities will have had enough of the screwups of these guys and start directly influencing the mortal realm. They have acted like children and all of creation is suffering becuase they cannot play well with each other or mind their own business.

The Mongols: electric bogaloo

To be fair, expecting anyone to reach enlightenment is a tall order.

You know, after reading this over again, I have to say that Uthur expects too much of his people and what they should be.

No one is perfect, much less enlightened or whatever he defines enlightenment as, most of the gods in the Assassinverse are flawed, but Uthur’s is most definitely perfection and self righteousness

I have no sympathy for Uther, pacifism is no good when you're being oppressed
