I'm not sure it's a chosen Avatar. More like one that the students would recognize and respect plus probably the first one it ever generated. Preffered might be a better choice.
Another thing to note
The Tree is far from the school but its tendrils spread far. Or are they the castles tendrils? Could the Avatar we see be the Castles rather that the actual Tree's?
