Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

    One final thing...

I have been advised by no less an authority than CHS acting Vice-Principal Ms. Cheerilee to use the upcoming Midnight Rising chapter as strictly a recap to relaunch the story, and not get into Lemon Zest until the following chapter, when I can devote a full entry to it without any split in focus. No, really. She did. You’ll see what I mean when the chapter launches, but basically, I’m

I have reached a decision on Midnight Rising...

Thanks in part to one final comment that came to me over PM last night. It wasn't a mean comment. In fact, it was nothing but a simple, politely asked question from a reader I hadn't heard from before: do you have to read the griffon chapters to understand what comes after?

New Firefly chapter at 7500 words and climbing... · 5:22pm Aug 26th, 2018

Tentatively titled “Spoiling Strike”, it’s been very well-received by prereaders to this point, but I’m having a horrible time with the second combat section involving Kaval/Gaius, and if’s not finished to satisfaction by September 1st, I’ll release the chapter without it.

Usually, I have a pretty good sense of a battle in my head before I write it, but this time I just don’t and I’m really having to feel my way through it as it simply refuses to come easily. I’ve settled on Gaius’ choice of weapon and the manner in which he fights, as well as how the ponies found and gained access to the underground complex. It’s the battle progression and tactics used that are driving me crazy; how exactly the gryphons will defeat an all-out pony attack through the underground involving the Black Lances teamed with unicorn and earth pony army troops without mages or Ravens.

It’ll be a relief when it’s finished, and I’ll be working on battle graphics for it throughout the week. Target release date is, again, Friday, September 1st to mark the one-year anniversary of the story release. One more update will follow and possibly a teaser of graphics before then.

I'll certainly be looking forward to this as usual.

RE Tactics

Here are a few rough, spitball ideas. Traps. They're underground which greatly reduces maneuverability. Both the classic literal traps and even just maze like branches, double backs, false paths, etc. Another is just straight out a time limit that the ponies know about until the facility is collapsed. They don't need to win as in beating them as just buy enough time until everyone is killed, the objective is lost/denied to the ponies.

I cannot wait for this chapter to be out!

My addiction is starting to show: I NEED MOAR!!!!

Thanks for the tips! Given them, I think you’re going to be quite pleased with what you read.
