I don't have a bunch to say, but it's been a while since I posted anything here so I figured I'd let anyone who cares enough to read my blog posts what I'm up to.
Chances are you've noticed that I've started writing and posting again. Yay me. It comes down to me being silly with how strictly I started to approach my writing and the result satisfied my standards less often as I got worse about that. I'm still fighting that because it became habit, but I know how to fight it now, so yay me again. This doesn't change how much time I have to devote to writing in the first place.
Whether or not you're happy with me posting stuff again is up to you. I don't know what it is that I did for FoME when I posted the Unhinged entry I made out of the RoboFoME card he picked for me any more than he seems to (that's a lie – he knows what it is and I kinda do too, but I don't know why I wrote that as opposed to anything else). I know Ungined is getting some pretty good view counts recently, which is neat, but the comment section is quieter than ever now, which is kinda disappointing (except for the entry I wrote for Admiral Biscuit (which will become relevant in a moment)). I should probably also not ignore that Daring Do and the Ancient Outpost recently got featured by the Seattle's Angels for that that don't already know. Yay me yet again.
With any luck, I'll be able to keep things moving along. There are a few more people I could ask to pick a RoboFoME card (and I can still do that myself just fine (and I'm totally not skipping you on purpose, Bugsy)), but I don't see myself focusing on that too much in the immediate future. So what's next?
When Admiral Biscuit chose his RoboFoME card, I choose to recall the reason that he picked the one he did being that it contained the word "cat". That's irrelevant to what I'm doing, but I felt it should be put out there first. More importantly, the card happened to contain a passable OC name that I quickly spun into the mechanic featured in Horrible Mechanical. At over 1000 words per hour (sans research time), that was the fastest that I think I have actually written anything so far. I blame the facts that airships are cool, that pointy-haired bosses are easy to rant about, and that ponies make everything better.
I actually have plans to write more about the airship mechanic and her misadventures in airship repair, poor management, and whatever she might get into in Canterlot and beyond in general. If I get this ball rolling, you all will get two-for-one, as well. That batpony story I blogged about... something like a year and a half ago now? I'm planning to include those characters to support this story as well because I think it's a reasonably good fit (and I still want to write those batponies someday).
That's for Soon, Maybe™. For now, I've been interrogating Biscuit for details on working at a repair shop and fixing stuff in general, and I have about a dozen Wikipedia pages open on steam engines. If any of you all are experienced in steam engines or really anything to do with boats, I wouldn't mind a few references to good study materials.
Can't help you with the steam engines, but I'm glad to hear you're having fun woth your writing.
Browsing the web via steam engine? That's the kind of ingenuity I'd expect to see in Factorio.
For the record, I'm not offended that I haven't gotten a turn picking a card to torture you with.
I'm looking forward to this ramp-up that seems to be in-the-works.
