    Story update and other stuff

Believe it or not I've actually started a new job at long last. I'd only planned on staying with my last employer six months, but ended up being stuck there for nearly five years. During my time there I had to put up with some of the worst bigotry I've ever encountered, despite the company claiming to be 'inclusive, supportive of diversity, etc'. Spoiler alert : They weren't!

    Story Update

Now on page 280 of Bon Bon's story. Looking good so far, but quite a technical challenge as she's been involved in other parts of the Fairlight story arc and I need to be careful tying it all together. I'm also aware that I will need to incorporate Lyra's story into it too.

    Continuing on

Despite one of the readers claiming that they had felt like vomiting after reading my last story, I have pressed on with my scribblings. Apparently eliciting a physical and -or- an emotional response from a story is considered a good thing. Or so I'm told.

Congrats! :D

So...

What inspired you to write the two "series" you have? Fairlight and the "Snow" saga. Are they supposed to be in the same "timeline"?

Whats your favorite story genres (romance, adventure, tragedy and such) to read and what for you to write ?

On a scale of 10 to 10, how awesome is Celestia?

Hmm, let's see...

My original inspiration to write a story for Fimfiction was born after listening to the audio book FoE: Heroes on Youtube. I know it seems a bit back to front as most people probably read the original FoE first, however that was the first time I'd come across anything related to the MLP universe other than a piece of music by Archie featuring a certain lavender unicorn. After that I began to read more MLP related stories, eventually stumbling across Fimfiction and a sadly unfinished story I really enjoyed call Rangers of Wintertrot.

The story of Fairlight himself came from my own personal experience working for the police here in the UK, and the knowledge I'd picked up working for them for 14 years. I used that, and my own overactive imagination of course, to craft a story that was built more out of raw enthusiasm than any actual skill as a writer. As you may know, I got absolutely panned by critics! God knows, if you've read any of my reviews by Paul Asuran, I still do! Anyway, I didn't let those miserable buggers stop me, and I went on to expand the Fairlight series one story after another until moving onto the second arc. Essentially I wanted to explore the 'hidden world' that lies beneath what most people see on a daily basis. You may not see it, but it's there alright, lurking in the shadows and waiting to pounce upon the unwary, or the downright unlucky. Even those we trust and put our faith in the most to keep us safe are still human, and they come with all the same selfishness, biases, and casual cruelty that if nothing else, has at least helped me to create a series of stories that have proved to be frighteningly prophetic. But that is a story for another day. My writing style is heavily influence by Robin Hobb, one of the best authors I've ever come across. Her series, 'Assassin's Quest' and the 'Liveship Traders' are absolute masterpieces in my opinion, drawing the reader in unlike anything I've ever read before. If I could ever get to her standard, I could pass from this world a very happy chappy.

As for timelines, the Fairlight series is set up to, and just beyond, the events culminating in the changeling invasion (A Canterlot Wedding). At this time of course Twilight is still a unicorn, however I have tried to keep as faithful to the timeline of the TV show as possible.

When the Snow Melts was originally intended as a one off, mainly because I felt I'd given Celestia a bad rap in the Fairlight series, portraying her as the kind of ruler who was willing to do anything it took to keep her world of sunshine and rainbows the way it is seen in the show. Whatever it took. The more I wrote about her the more she developed as a real character, with thoughts, feelings, and a strength of purpose and drive that made me want to understand her world all the more. This lead me to Ice Fall, one of my personal favourites, and is a further investigation into the reasons why Celestia is the way she is in the show now. I mean, come on, have you seen the movie? Celestia has about as much power as a wet sponge! You don't get to rule a people with peace and prosperity if you don't have the strength to protect them. There is an old adage that comes to mind - 'If you want peace, prepare for war'. Why would Tia leave her country open to invasion if she didn't have some way of defending her people? I call BS on that! Anyway, the Celestia arc takes us back to the time of the great war with Nightmare Moon, and up to the events of Fairlight which culminates with All the Queen's Horses. The last in the Fairlight series (Which is already written by the way) ties in with that. One more book to come after that which will tie the two arcs together.

Favourite story genres to read and write? That would be probably be adventure based, with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure. I don't like too much of an emphasis on the latter unless it's important to the story as I think the whole 'boy meets girl' thing kinda gets played to death. That's not say I don't like my characters to find their special somepony of course, but Fate can be a fickle swine. Hmm... Perhaps I'm being a touch hypocritical here, but you can decide that for yourself!

As for Tia? 10/10. Always.
