"Horse Luna" - Winner of BronyCon Flash Fic Contest · 1:16am Aug 6th, 2018

Hi, folks!

My con report is coming as soon as I can finish it, but in the meantime, here's the story I wrote for the Flash Fiction contest at BronyCon. It took first place, but since it's much, much less than 1,000 words, I figured I'll post it here. Enjoy!

Prompts:
Main character: Luna
Secondary character: Applejack
Location: Canterlot High
Object: Balloons

Rules: 45 minutes to create 1-page story that incorporates all of the above.

Thanks to Scribbler for judging.

Horse Luna

"When my sister finally gave me permission to explore the mirror world, she didn't mention children," Princess Luna said with a snort in the halls of the Canterlot High hallway.

Applejack held up two hands. "Now, Luna–"

"Yes?" replied Princess Luna and Vice Principal Luna at once.

Applejack rolled her eyes and motioned to the pony. "Can I just call you 'Horse Luna'?"

"Absolutely n–"

"Quiet, Horse Luna," Vice Principal Luna snapped. She sighed and put her fingers to her forehead. "I don't like it, either, but we can't have Farm Day with no animals."

Horse Luna gasped. "I'm not an animal!"

Applejack pet her withers. "Nobody says you are, Horse Luna, but all the other farm animals are sick with the cold that's going around. Here, take these balloons and just... do your best. Kids are easy to please."

"If I must," Horse Luna grumbled. She took the balloons and walked into the classroom, which held the visiting preschoolers. "Hello, class! Let's learn about horses!" she said with her brightest smile, surrounded by balloons.

The children screamed.

"Wait!" Horse Luna shouted. She tried to calm them, but the quick movements of her horn and wings popped several balloons. The children continued shrieking and tried to hide or escape through the windows. Many of them cried. "Enough!" Horse Luna cast a spell, and the children fell into a deep sleep.

Applejack rushed in. "What did you do?"

Horse Luna smiled. "Now they can dream of horses. I'll tech them in their sleep."

Applejack crossed her arms. "Hon, do you know anything about non-Equestrian horses?"

Horse Luna blinked. She paused. She groaned, and she mumbled, "Pass the textbook."
