Entry #54- Functional Friendships? · 5:48pm Aug 5th, 2018
Okay, so I didn’t actually finish writing chapter 3 of The Secret of the Crystal Ponies while I was gone, but I got a lot of it written, so yay! It’ll definitely go up before the end of August.
I have been pretty consistent answering weekly asks from my pony blog. I think illustrating two to four lines of dialogue is a touch easier than writing out a story arc- for me, at least. If it’s something that sounds interesting to you, you can ask me or the ponies close to me a question!
Right now, these are the ponies waiting for an answer:
askbananapie
askmotherlyfirefly
keirastarlightdraconequus
After I finish these three asks, I’ll be ending the birthday asks and moving on to something different. Feel free to ask me about where I’m going!
And now for my thoughts about season 7 episode Uncommon Bond!
“If you wannabe my lover, you gotta get with my friends.” –Wannabe, Spice Girls.
Yeah, I ship Sunburst and Starlight, but this episode didn’t make it easy to. Starlight was being really clingy, and seemed to assume that they could just pick up their relationship where they left it back when they were foals.
As people grow up, they experience new things and get new interests. Some interests may last forever, and some may just become a fond (or embarrassing) memory. Lasting friendships will likely stay together when you generally care about the other person enough to try a new interest with them, and vice-versa.
Sunburst was a pretty bad friend as a colt to not keep in touch -did even Starlight try to write keep in touch with Sunburst? If not, she may be guilty of this too. I can understand Starlight’s worry about being abandoned again, but her current friends are not likely to “steal” her from him. Having people in common can help a friendship, too- which is how I met a lot of my current friends.
I’ve been rambling on a lot, so I’ll end with the petty thought that I kinda enjoyed Starlight being put in the same position as Twilight was, back when Starlight thought of Trixie of being a closer friend. That is all.
Until next time!
