A Long Overdue Update · 4:53am Aug 5th, 2018
It's been far too long since I updated anything, and, given the title, there is an upcoming update. In this instance, I'm updating AppleShy. Now, I'm not simply going to post a new part and then disappear for months before I post the next chapter in the new arc. No, not at all. I'm posting the entire arc... and then probably disappear for months.
The new arc is simply called, "The Trial". Yes, my uncanny skill in devising the most boring titles still lives on. You'd think that I would gain some skill in that category, but, given that I only have three "series" going, I don't have much to work with.
Either way, I will post the new chapters tomorrow morning. Of course, since it is so late, you'll probably find them all posted before you spot this journal. In that case, I hope you enjoy it. I found myself enjoying writing the trial itself, even if I believe that I came up short. There's a lot of dialogue and very little action. I don't mean fights and such, I mean there was little room for character movement. In the hand of a better writer, it would have worked great, but that is not me. I did what I could, and I am content with it.
Changing topics, though still in the world of writing, I found out something rather curious. I like to aim each part to hover around 10k words. I'm certainly not bound by that number, as I believe that the story always comes first.
Still, I keep hearing professional writers discuss how much they try to get written every day and most go by page count rather than word count. I decided to look up what the average page count is, and it is 250 words per page. That is the most common, but I have seen 300 words per page.
This new arc is just shy of 29k words. So doing the math, that comes out to 116 pages. For me, in an odd way, that feels like I managed to accomplish something pretty cool. I know that these numbers really don't mean much. It's just a nice bit of information that I wanted to share.
That about wraps up this blog. I look forward to sharing the next arc in the AppleShy Series.
Also, the next and final, for real, arc is called "The Long Road Home".
One last note, I added the Alternate Universe tag to this story, and I will use the tag for every story from here on out. I stopped watching the show nearly halfway through season three, so not only am I out of the loop in regards to the show, aspects that I have in my headcanon have most likely no longer line up with the show. It's a small change, but I think it will give folks a quick, and up front, understanding that I'm not going to follow canon all that closely.
