BronyCon 2018, Mood, and Moving Forward · 6:50pm Aug 3rd, 2018
BronyCon 2018 was fun, which requires some explanation.
I enjoyed the convention, though I was coming down off of narcotics for pain and dealing with an unstable mood. Without too much boring detail, my mood is currently a big question mark: I'm off of two meds and one experimental treatment, and looking forward to another experimental treatment possibly in the near future.
I have a few regrets from the con. I forgot to wear my TSJ collar at the party I hosted and I had on way too many clothes. Partly this is because I made a poor decision that made concentrating on the party neigh-impossible, for which I do not blame Morning Sun but was still a mistake. Everypony seemed to enjoy themselves, at least, and it was also fun for me. I also brought but did not don Pinkie cosplay, partly because the party conflicted with the gala, and partly because my hairstylist uses natural dyes and my hair came out more Cheerilee-colored than Pinkie-colored.
Side note: a big thanks to everypony I met and spent time with at the con, as well. I could name ponies but inevitably I'd miss somepony important, and you know who you are. I guess I'll name Bad Horse for being wrong about mathematical Platonism but I really need to have a long discussion with him regarding patterns and the nature of reality where I do more of the talking and that pretty much requires it be done by text.
My biggest regret is not doing more stuff con-wise. A lot of this came down to the time taken up by planning and hosting the party. Next year if I do this I will probably host it as a dead dog on Sunday, so you'll need to be staying until Monday to attend. This will decrease attendance but improve accessibility, and I can engage the actual convention events more.
And about next year: I'm disappointed BronyCon is folding. I don't think it's going to slip much more in attendance at this point, and we'll need an East-coast con to take over the empty spot now. Furry cons make it relatively clear the fandom has a floor to it so there won't be any end to MLP cons in the future, but managing a convention of shrinking base is very difficult so I won't blame the staff for the decision. It's just really unfortunate for the fans who have supported the convention all this time.
As for where I am now, over the past few days the lack of narcotics has given me a healthy lower ear for pages three and five of SugarlessPaints's Z-Book. I have several avenues of writing inspiration post-con, most (but not all) of them dark and dramatic. You'll have to wait to see which kernel pops up first.
(waves) Darnit, this means I need to get my pictures uploaded to Flickr and put out my own post.
I love your horse parties as usual. Despite Bronycon ending next year, I have a feeling it won't be the last time we see each other. It can't be the last.
Good seeing you again. Given that I intend to make the most of the final Bronycon, I look forward to getting the best of both worlds and attending both your party and Saturday night con events.
Thanks again for throwing your party!
It was great to see you again, Trick! I'm looking forward to next year already! I know it will be a little sad but friendship is forever and I know one way or another we'll always be together.
It was good seeing you again, Trick. You host the most wonderful parties, and it was a pleasure being able to attend this last one! Sorry I didn't interact much, but I didn't actually know you until we met at Tir na Nog. Still, I look forward to meeting you again next year, if I go.
I'm sure we'll get a new con in its place, or maybe they'll go back on their short-sighted (in my opinion anyway) choice. Nice seeing you at your party!
I ended up meandering a bit more than I wanted, but I did enjoy the time I spent at your party. Next time I won't have an Air B&B in the ghetto a mile away so I can actually have a beer or two and watch people run into walls.
Feels indeed. Loved the party, thanks again for hosting it. Hope you're feeling well.
Great to see you again! I look forward to correcting your anachronistic and socially destructive devotion to mathematical Platonism.
Sorry I had to leave the party to give my Advanced Writing talk. Next year, we should combine the two.
It's a big bummer the con ends next year.
Hope the feels get sorted soon. You and experimental procedures, I'm telling you :P

If you two do have that conversation, I'd love to get to listen in
