    Potentially The End

Due to the suddenly VERY uncertain landscape that TTRPGs have been dropped into thanks to Wizards of The Coast and Hasbro, I am now faced with a problem.

For those of you who don't really pay attention to the world of Dungeons and Dragons, something of a war has begun. It is the fans vs. D&D owner and creator, Wizards of the Coast and, by proxy, Hasbro.

    The cause for the war?

    To the Surface!

Alright, I've been gone a long while. For the most part anyways. COVID... did not do me or mine any favors. Life got hard after it came in, and now I'm on my own.

    WWII

I have received a number of comments since the posting of Chapter 5 of Tartarus Forged. Most of those comments were respectful in asking why I would reference the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki like I did, and I thank you for that tact, but some of you... were not.

    It Started With An Idea

This is something that I've had running around my head for the last month or so. It's not something overly complicated, but about half-way through writing down this synopsis, I realized this had more potential than as just a fan-fic story. Alter a few key facts, such as ponies being involved... and I may have something I could genuinely turn into a book to one day be published.

Another idea to one day work on. · 9:31am Aug 1st, 2018

A little earworm a certain fan-comic made me want to flesh out.

Probably won't do anything with it, as it's not my idea originally, but something to think about to maybe incorporate in another story.

It was… I think ten years ago. Yeah. That sounds about right.

You know what happened ten years ago, right? Two things, two very important things.

Ten years ago, Equestria was a land of peace and harmony, where the light of love and friendship nurtured the ponies who dwell within. Equestria maintained this peace for well over a thousand years, ever since the two rulers, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, dethroned the Mad King and restored the world to one of order.

But ten years ago… everything changed.

It wasn’t instant. No, she was too smart and cunning to let impatience get the best of her. As the summer ticked on that year, ponies noticed that it was unusually warm. Nothing horrid, but enough to be noticeable. By the time summer was over everyone was ready and wanting winter though.

But… it never came. Oh, it cooled down, but the snow, the blizzards, the dark clouds that tended to blot out the sun… didn’t happen. The sun continued it’s merciless beating of the world below.

Ponies panicked, as they are wont to do when things disrupt the status quo. But it died down. They realized their rulers were two incredibly powerful Alicorns that were hunting down the solution to this oddity now. But something wasn’t right. Someone eventually realized why.

Princess Celestia was out there, making it clear she was looking for an answer… but where was Princess Luna?

Where was the mare that dedicated her life to the happiness and well being of her subjects? Did she cause this? Why?

No, the truth was much darker, and would not have been discovered if not for the brave last moments of one of Celestia’s personal guards. Before being struck down by the Princess of the Sun herself, he revealed to the world her betrayal. In a fit of rage, suspicion, and jealousy, Celestia attacked and bound her sister Luna and began increasing the intensity of her sun.

That was when things got hot… and the polar ice-caps began melting.

By the second year of her betrayal, Queen Celestia had turned the once fertile land of Equestria into a massive ocean dotted with small islands. Thousands... no, millions died as a result. And the survivors? Celestia gave them a choice. Live in the few remaining settlements left and worship the new Church of the Sun… or perish at the bottom of the Solar Ocean.

In the following eight years Celestia has ruled with a cold, iron fist, and few remember what life was like before the Flood.

Celestia usurped the throne, and flooded Equestria. The two events that, together, changed history.

Today, only the Elite, the Wealthy, and the Influential live in nice homes. If your poor, you lived on fake land connected to the last few settlements, fake land on which building regularly sank through after enough time. Poverty, pain, disease… these conditions changed ponies. They aren’t the ponies the rest of the world once knew them as anymore. Celestia’s betrayal forced them to change, to become ruthless in order to survive.

I miss the days before the Flood. I miss the smiling children, the ease in which ponies helped others. I miss the kindness, the generosity, the laughter, the honesty, and the loyalty. I miss it so much, it hurts sometimes.

But what hurts more is the mystery of Celestia herself. Why? Why did she do this? Why did she so thoroughly betray the people she once so viciously protected? Why attack her sister, who she worked tirelessly for a hundred years to save so long ago?

Why did the pony I see as my mother destroy our home?
