    IN WHICH HAPPY BOXING DAY!
I meant to post while it was still Christmas (CST) but as usual I’m late. I hope my few remaining readers had a lovely holiday! Here’s a song that’s been in my head lately.

Chuu is one of those who, according to her coworkers, really is just a ball of sunshine. Follow me past the jump.

    IN WHICH I LACK BURRITOS
No, really. I haven’t been by my local burrito place in a long time, partly due to my mother, so I haven’t been able to get good inspiration for another Burritoverse story. Sorry. For now, enjoy my favorite J-Pop group NiziU.

    IN WHICH SCREW DEADLINES
Hey, y’all. Been a few months. Whoever reads this, just wanted to show I’m not dead yet. Do you know NMIXX? You should.

Right. Now, where was I? Oh, I’m sure I’ll figure it out below the jump.

IN WHICH I LIED TO YOU (SORRY)
So… Turns out it's been a full year (!) since my last story. I promised a couple stories in between but failed to finish them. But at least I got my annual Mayor Mare story in. Have some Twice as penance.

More past the jump, if you're willing.

IN WHICH I LIVE… SORT OF
Hi. Been awhile. Not sure who's left to read this. I just now realized I accidentally added an "L" on my last 3 posts. Oops. Well, enjoy Sir Elton.

So, after fixing my screw-up, let's get to the meat of why I'm writing, if you'll pass the jump with me.

Author's Notes For Sonata · 8:30am Jul 31st, 2018

IN WHICH I SONATA
Hello and thank you for reading my latest story and these extra ramblings. I guess I have a few things to say about the story while I'm still awake. So let's get down to it!

This story took me far longer to write than it should have, mostly because I kept getting stuck at key points. As usual for my Burritoverse stories, the inner monologue was done more or less in one go and not edited. It was the part after that that proved difficult. How would Sonata actually get her job?

Enter my favourite punching bag, Orangeglow. Beulah is such a blowhard that of course she'd be a fan of his and piss of her young employees as a result. I imagine the turnover at The Barn is pretty high except for Dashiki -- who by the way is based on a real guy that worked at my local burrito place for several years. He may have quit, as I haven't seen him the past few times I've gone in.

A lot of puzzle pieces of this story were able to fit together just by giving some characterization to Beulah's husband, who has been mentioned in almost EVERY Burrito story but never given a spotlight until now. The more he told me about himself, the more I liked him, and the more obvious it would be that he would offer Sonata a job.

Short-Plate's daughter with weight problems is based on my ex-girlfriend. Beulah increasingly is based on my ex's mother, whom I despise, although the real thing ran a formals shop and worked at a radio station; she never did food services. My ex, though, worked at a sammich shop during high school. And yes, I saw her get turned down for at least two jobs, despite being the most qualified candidate, because she's obese. I tried to work on that with her (and also on myself; I'm not that much of a hypocrite), but she chafed at my constant needling and mixed messaging -- I simultaneously loved her big self but also wanted her to lose weight for both our sakes -- she loves cosplaying and Victorian-style clothes but couldn't fit into anything. She always said it was because of her big bust -- it wasn't; it was due to her large belly. Putting this in perspective, it got to the point, as I put in more effort at the health thing, she weighed more than me despite my being seven or eight inches taller and male. Oh, I'm certainly overweight (I love doughnuts and chocolate too much), but not morbidly obese, in part because I eat an otherwise balanced diet and exercise.

I wrote over a month ago about my worry that, because it's been almost three years since I've written Sonata, I'd have a hard time keeping her in character. I hope I did her justice this time. But I'm also worried I went too far the other way and removed what dimension I may have given her before.

In case you're wondering, if it isn't obvious enough… the couple who suffer at Sonata's accidental hand are Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Someone needed to get hurt, may as well have been them. I hope readers don't call the ADL on me for Kushner's EQG name. Is it racist? Probably. But by that point I had to stop trying, in order to finish the story.

The reason I kept getting stuck on this one was because couldn't figure out the exact way events should work or play out. Finally, last week, I just said "fuck it" and decided to attempt writing a skeleton story of the basic plot elements (which I already knew). Naturally, what came out was essentially finished work that needed only a little tweaking. Granted, that not-caring may have hurt the story in the end. I'm sure Moth will come in and say it's a sorry follow-up to the last Sonata Burrito story. Maybe it is, but I've sort of been on a not giving a shit binge since the fallout over my last Orangeglow story. Lost a couple of followers over that one. I'm now back to where I was a couple months ago. So, yay me I guess.

Coming up next will be a Sunset Shimmer story that I've had completed for awhile -- it just needs some tweaking and cover art before I can make it public.

As far as Burritoverse stories go, I have two planned: One with Octavia that I started on and gave up on partway through because I couldn't figure out how to write in Chav -- Moth helped me out a bit on that -- and of course the final story where Sonata and Sunset finally meet again.

Oh! Fun Fact! This story was originally titled Sonata Dusk Makes A Burrito. I changed it because she doesn't actually make a burrito, but she does ruin one, although we only see the effects of her ruining Jared's quesadilla.

Speaking of, props to Dashiki for standing up for Sonata. I didn't really expect him to do that -- my original plan was to have Short-Plate say "What?" to Beulah, but the story wanted to do something different.

No shipping will occur. Sonata only has eyes for Sunset. This is true of most girls in the city actually.

So… yeah that's all I got for now. Now I need to actually add my story to groups because I was too lazy to do it at the start.

Peace out!
