A JD Review: MLP Season 8 Episode 18 - "Yakity-Sax" · 5:28pm Jul 25th, 2018

The one where Discovery Family doesn't know how to count. Oh, and spoilers ahead.

No, Pinkie. No. :ajbemused:

I'll make it simple: I was NOT a fan of this episode. Which sucks because its the return of Pinkamena, of which comes out again from Pinkie once her friends tell her she's bad at playing... whatever the hell that yak instrument is called (I'm not looking that up). And Pinkie kind of deserved to be told this, as she was getting kind of annoying constantly bugging ponies with her bad playing. Not good annoying either, where it's enjoyable for the audience to see Pinkie being Pinkie. No, this was just... really annoying.

But then again, Twilight and the others are at fault too! They don't get off scot-free! All they told her was that she wasn't very good at playing the instrument and was told to stop, because she was harming those around her with her playing. This is what caused Pinkamena to return, and what caused Pinkie to move to Yakyakistan to hear the music from the masters. This is dumb.

What they SHOULD have said was that she needs more practice, and to GO to Yakyakistan to get some practice from more skilled yaks. Because the moral of this episode is completely wack, saying that as long as Pinkie enjoys it, then that's all that matters. No. No, no, no. Bad writers. It doesn't matter if Pinkie is having fun while playing, everypony else around her are annoyed by it, and NOT having fun. Goodness gracious, this episode. :facehoof:

Had some pretty good moments, but the moral was... bad. 5/10. What did you all think?

I agree with you.

Pinkie was pretty inconsiderate to her friends with her playing. I mean, seriously, going to Fluttershy’s home in the middle of the night to play that instrument when every creature’s trying to sleep? Rude!

And yes, Twilight and the others could have handled the situation with the instrument a little better, but Pinkie took it overboard. Just because she was told not to play it anymore, she uproots her entire life in Ponyville, moves to Yakyakistan, just to listen to the music, NOT practice and improve. In the end, her friends said, “Okay, you stink at playing the instrument, but it makes you happy, so you can keep playing it, no matter how much it annoys us.”

... What?! :rainbowhuh:

The moral of this episode was indeed, “wack”. Basically, it was: Pinkie always gets her way.

I’ll also give it a 5/10. It would have been a 4 if not for the return of Pinkamena. :pinkiecrazy:

I think I liked it better than non-Competitive Clause since AJ and RD annoyed me more than Pinkie here, but yeah this was a pretty weak episode.

The biggest problem for me was the moral. It painted Pinkie’s friends in the wrong despite the fact that Pinkie’s playing was disrupting their lives and messing their jobs up like destroying AJ’s crop, RD’s show, and Rarity’s dresses. If Pinkie at least said something how she should have been practicing somewhere where no one would have been annoyed than it would have been better.

Also the episode wasn’t that funny. Especially with Pinkie playing her instrument which had the same gag every time.

The only highlight in the episode was Pinkamena. It was pretty cool to see her again and I felt that she had some good gags with her. Though even the I felt she was a bit undeserved. So Twilight saying how she would have been better off without friends like her in the movie didn’t make Pinkamena come back, but not being able to play a random instrument she got back caused her to go Pinkamena again? Just doesn’t feel right.

Definitely right behind Non-competitive clause as my least favorite of the season so far.

Though seeing the Comic-con preview it looks like we should be definitely getting better episodes later.

Yeesh our of all the episodes to show early they show probably the worst one they could have. Oh well hopefully that means we got the weakest episode out of the way first.

I think the next episode is a Discord episode so hopefully that’s more entertaining.

I don't know what to expect of this season anymore - alongside Season 6, the plots are lazy.

Moral of the story: Never be honest with Pinkie Pie, it's the equivalent of kicking a puppy.

The whole conflict could’ve easily been avoided had the girls just told Pinkie not to play when they’re busy. That would’ve been a way better moral: You can do what makes you happy, but not to the detriment of others. There’s gotta be a limit.

Moral of episode was Pinkie Pie is always right, and if you disagree, your a monster for it. This episode is currently my least fav episode until I remarathon the entire show.
1/10. And it dont get saved by Pinkamena as I havent really been a fan of her outside her straight mane

Reason why she's my most despicable pony ever! Man frankly I resent her no no end, more despicable than Deadpool and SpongeBob combined.

You chose the wrong side, Pinkson.

Dick move, Pinkamena.

1/10, probably one of the worst than most previous episodes.

There was a new episode?

4907760
Yeah, Thanks to a, honestly sorry if you love her, a dick move from Pinkie's instrument, did she unleash her inner Gollum and went to Pakisan.

4907479 Everyone was kind of at fault here. Gosh, another low point for the season. :ajsleepy:

4907480 I don't know why, but I actually enjoyed Non-Compete Clause just a tiny bit more than this episode. Maybe it was because of the Young Six. :applejackunsure:

4907505 Here we might get some crazy returns from some old villains by the finale, so that sounds pretty interesting.

4907553 And NO ONE wants to do that. :fluttercry:

4907575 Exactly. I would have taken that moral than the one we got.

4907584 Gosh, once the series ends, I'm gonna marathon it all as well. Gonna be fun time. :moustache:

4907614 I can see how she can get on people's nerves, but I don't think she's the most despicable pony ever. That title belongs to Neighsay.

4907760 I know, right? Just dropped out of nowhere.

4907880
One of those episodes

4907926
Weird cause my DVR never showed a new episode coming up and didn't record anything either

4907926
Neighsay deserved to be slammed by the Hulk and be called Bilbo Baggins by Stark. Gosh I wish he should be appearing in your story, where the Avengers and Guardians (especially Rocket and Thor) won't take kindly his ignorant attitude for a change. Puny Unicorn...

As for Pinkie Pie, I'm never making friends with her, I'd rather baragge her with insults and curse words on her most sensitive areas just to keep her at bay. God I'm starting to sound like Squidward right now, especially from what he did to SpongeBob in April Fool's Day.

4907926
My sentiments exactly. They could have told Pinkie that her playing was getting on the nerves of people around her but she could still play it somewhere where no one can hear her until she gets better to the point that everyone CAN tolerate the music.

FTR: I shake my leg a lot, and it gets on my family's nerves, they tell me to stop.
