If you started reading when one new chapter was up and didn't see there were four, well, you have more reading to do.
All three CMC have their marks and are pretty well defined in their new roles. In essence, anything going forward would not be the day to day goings on of the crusaders anymore, but things set on a much greater time scale.
I am considering making a few blog posts as to how things would go differently from canon seeing as Discord had no reason to set the plundervines on Equestria. Hence they never had to give the elements back to the tree, nor did they get the new castle or the magical map.
I also have a few ideas for one-shots to three-shots that occur into the future, including one that is about 50% written(It is more than that but it was done about three years ago).
problem with the Plundervines that trap was set thousands of years before the start of the show, and wasnt under Discords control at any time. he did not 'set them loose', rather, the waning of the Tree's power is what released them. so regardless of if the CMC ascended or not, the EoH would still have to go back to the Tree.

Sure they were. If he were to decide he didn't want them anymore, he could have neutralized them, or removed them. He had months to do it, and very little to do with his time at that point other than watch. Seeing as he certainly didn't want that crisis to occur (for many reasons), he would have spent the time.
