Any Suggestions/Requests for Blog Topics? · 9:35am Jul 19th, 2018

Are there any topics anyone would be particularly interested in seeing a blog about? Be it one of my quasi-regular blog series like Writing 101 or Speculation and Worldbuilding, or perhaps one of my less-structured musings posts (like the ones discussing immortality as a fictional concept/tool).

I'm not guaranteeing I'll write about any of these topics (I still need something to say, after all). And my blogs don't always get a huge amount of views. But suggest away.

Speculation and worldbuilding is a good topic. It would most likely cause discussion, since there will definitely be people with their own established techniques, and some without. But one thing people can always use is new ideas for exploring those inspired lines of thought and then using them to construct a framework.

How to make your viewer actually "care" about your fic? Like get touched and whatnot. How to do it and how not to.

Ever considered writing about creating original characters?

Also, do you have an index anywhere for your writing blogs? Would be useful for checking out the backlog.

I recently found you, your stories, and your reviews and they are awesome. I just wanted to let you know that I admire your work!

4903756 Well, yes, but I was asking for more specific topics. I already have done a lot of worldbuilding posts.

4903825 I think this is a pretty nebulous question: the sort of thing that cannot easily fit into one blog post (or even several) and has many contributing factors. Do you mean avoiding Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy?

4903877 I had not really considered that, but it's not a bad idea. My blog posts are often as much for myself as for others, so it might also help me with the novel I'm trying to make progress on.

I don't have an index, so I just updated all my old blogs to include the correct tags. Search for #cleverpun #writing -#review blog or #cleverpun #worldbuilding in the tagging system, and everything should pop up. Though this comes with the obvious caveat that the older it is, the more I've learned since then.

4903884 My fics often revolve around melodrama, so I may not be the best person to ask about that. But writing emotional scenes is a topic I could take a stab at.

4904229 Thanks. If you have any specific thoughts or comments for my stories/musings, interesting discussion is my favorite aspect of writing :raritystarry:

Specifically... have you done one on technology?

I know, for example, that the mlp universe is all over the place when it comes to the level of achieved and used technology:
They have electronic medical equipment, speakers, and Twilight had some weird-science-style electronic gadgets in the basement of Golden Oaks Library before it was incinerated.
But at the same time, the society uses firefly lanterns, pony drawn carriages, coal-fired steam trains...

All of that makes for a level of technology that is based off of writing convenience as opposed to a more proper way of doing it.

So, my suggestion would then be:

World-building, properly setting the technological age while including other universal rules, such as magic.

I checked back through your blogs and saw one from last year that was on technobabble, but I don’t think it covered the worldbuilding aspect of setting the tech level.

How to grasp your audience's heartstrings without seemingly "trying too hard" or using too much "knife theory".

Especially in regards to characters and OCs.
