Good Clean Fun: Writing Adult Humor

Friday, 9:30 PM, Chaos

If we could get away with it, the name of this panel would be “good clean filth,” because there is such a thing! A good fanfiction writer can crack jokes about adult topics (such as sex, violence, drugs, etc) while still keeping a light, comedic tone. It’s even possible to crack jokes on these topics while remaining true to the cheerful and happy spirit of the show. Would you like to know how?

EDIT: Petrichord did it.

"Of course you can handle my ass, honey~" Cadance purred, nuzzling into Shining Armor's neck. Her horn glowed, and the dozens of pages of legal forms drifted off of his desk and formed a neat, orderly pile in his waste bin. "Even if you're too small to fill a training condom."

Shining Armor's ears flicked. "Those don't exist-"

"They do now." Cadance's hoof slid down his chest, and she could practically feel the heat of the stallion's blush as it settled just beneath his waist. "I'm sure our taxpayers will pay any expense to make a microscope powerful enough to find your subatomic sausage."

Shining Armor tried to speak, but his short-circuited brain wouldn't let him. No matter; the steady swell of his cock spoke for itself.

"It's like our ancestors decreed, dear: small packages come in big things."

Shining armor whimpered as Cadance leaned over to whisper in his ear.

"For an ass as flawlessly massive as mine, only the smallest package will do. And that's why your micropenis is more valuable than the crystal heart itself."

Alicorns, Amulets, and Antagonists: Writing an Effective Villain

Friday, 10:45 PM, Moon

Is Rarity the secret true villain of MLP? Will she be the big bad of the final season? Our research says yes! (Seriously, look at that face)

MLP is full of compelling villains, from the schoolyard cruelty of Diamond Tiara to Tirek’s brutish use of naked force. But what makes a good villain? The fanfiction community is full of superb fan-made antagonists, and in this panel, four experienced authors share their techniques for creating effective antagonists. Fanfiction antagonists can be canon or original, petty bullies or world-threatening tyrants, but there are some bad horses out there, and this panel will help you write them!

Research is Magic

Friday, Midnight, Star

Honestly I'm going to spend the whole time talking about architecture and economics in fanfiction and all the other panelists are going to hate it.

Seriously. Architecture is important!

Send me a recording of that last one. But only if I don't have to give you my email address and credit card info.

I'm half tempted to repost the shit i tossed out onto Wanderer D's forum regarding this.

Those panels! :D
Those times! D:
Why, panel schedulers, whhhyyyyy!

...Right, well, unfortunately, the one I most want to attend, Research is Magic, is also the one I have a hard lock against, rather than just some inconvenience (I'm volunteering as an assistant at the burlesque this year). Alas, alas... I still remember those posts of yours on the architecture of Vision and the thought you put into it (Good stuff!), and I'm one of those people who considers "What do they eat?" an important question.
...Maybe I can try and console myself with thinking that it might end up being stuff I've heard before? Still, alas.

And the other two Friday I don't know about either; I may need to fit a nap in somewhere that day, I don't know when I'll be able to get into my hotel room (both of which result from starting travelling late Thursday to arrive Friday morning, to save having to get an additional hotel night), and I'm not sure yet how much preliminary work they'll be for the burlesque or when it will be. Those I can at least maybe make, though.

The Saturday panel, on the other hoof, should be clear unless something new comes up. But why couldn't they all be Saturday?! D:

(I might definitely want to seek out the recordings of those panels, when they finally go up, but of course it's not the same just having them on my screen at home like any other video on any other day.)

Ah well, ah well... Well, I hope that all your panels go splendidly, even if I'm at fewer of them than I'd like. :)
Maybe they'll be so packed that there wouldn't be room for me anyway without displacing someone who hadn't heard of you before? We can hope! :D

And maybe we'll bump into each other in Quills and Sofas at some point (which I notice has some events scheduled in it this year?), or something.

Please do!

With your permission, I'll totally edit it into the main blogpost.

Because they hate you!

To be fair, they hate all fanfic writers and readers equally.

You will have heard some of it before, because I am going to reference that a good bit in my slides. Most of the new content relates to economics as a key aspect of understanding how your setting works.

The Saturday panel, on the other hoof, should be clear unless something new comes up. But why couldn't they all be Saturday?! D:

Because seriously, Bronycon hates fanfic. Just hates it!

It's okay. We love Bronycon anyway.

And maybe we'll bump into each other in Quills and Sofas at some point (which I notice has some events scheduled in it this year?), or something.

Yeah, I have no idea what's up with that. But I will be around in Q&S anyway, so let's meet up!

I'll be there. Confused, but present.

And nothing says you can't write over the young adult's head to sneak something dirty in that is still clean on the surface. I seem to remember one author doing that (which I stole)...

“Well, yeah,” Twilight said, looking up at Fluttershy. “When two ponies really love each other in a romantic way, they step off and... you know.” Twilight tapped her forehooves together gently, in a single quiet clap.

“Ah. Right...” Fluttershy said, a blush appearing on her face, her eyes darting between Twilight’s hooves and the floor. “And, you and the Princess?”

Twilight clapped her hooves together, hard and fast, in a thunderous applause.

“Okay, getting the picture!” Fluttershy said...

(as well as one of my favorite lines)
“Hold on a second there,” Applejack interjected, holding up a hoof. “These magazines. He didn’t hide them in his drawer or under the mattress by any chance, did he?”

“Under the floorboards, actually!” Twilight chirped, as though pleased by the memory.

“Whoa nelly,” Applejack murmured, raising a hoof to her face. “And uh... what lessons did you gather from those magazines o’ his, precisely?”

‘Well, when two mares really love each other, and one of them owns a riding crop—”

"Because they hate you!

To be fair, they hate all fanfic writers and readers equally."
Oh, right, right, of course. :)

"You will have heard some of it before, because I am going to reference that a good bit in my slides."
Thanks. I mean, I'd still like to be there for it, but thanks. :)

"Most of the new content relates to economics as a key aspect of understanding how your setting works."
And I'd also like to be there for that! Because, well... yeah!

(By the way, semi-related, but it just popped to mind: I'm guessing you've seen this before, but I thought I'd link it just in case; it seemed you might like it if you hadn't.)

"Because seriously, Bronycon hates fanfic. Just hates it!"
Is there actually something (probably not hate, but something) to that? It seems like it's probably more of the joke, but I thought I'd check.

"It's okay. We love Bronycon anyway."
Yeah. :)

(And it must be a difficult job, finding good slots for all the panels with all the many and various interests attendees have, especially since each organizer likely only has a subset. Find perfect times for the panels catering to Fandom Subgroup A? Great! Except that now Fandom Subgroup B, which you were only peripherally aware even existed, now has three panels it wants to attend schedule at the same time in different rooms. Fix that, and, oops, now Subgroup C has its favorite panel ending at 0200 and its second favorite starting 1000 on Saturday...)

"Yeah, I have no idea what's up with that."
I'm particularly puzzled to see guided meditation there. I went to that when they had it at the convention year before last, I think it was, and it involved closing the doors and turning off the lights in the panel room. Not sure how that's supposed to combine with a room which generally has writers and readers wandering in and out at all times of day...

"But I will be around in Q&S anyway, so let's meet up!"
Yep, just a matter of both being there at the same time, but we managed last year!

(By the way, semi-related, but it just popped to mind: I'm guessing you've seen this before, but I thought I'd link it just in case; it seemed you might like it if you hadn't.)

I have! This is exactly the sort of thing I want to cover. :D

4901678
Heh, good; useful information, that. And it does further help with the "Eh, it would be nice to attend, but I've heard it all before" thing, too. :)

BAM
LET IT BE KNOWN THAT MY WRITING CAREER PEAKED IN THOSE MOMENTS OF PURE LITERARY TRANSCENDENCE

We really must see if we can put our heads together, along with GaryOak and Shakespearicles, before the Research panel so that we don't go in unprepared.

4901770

Yeeeeah.

I'm putting some slides together now, but we REALLY need to get together.

4901776

I'll be interested to see those. Truth be told, I've never been on a panel that used those before.

4901783
Neither have I.

4901678
Oh, and speaking of the architecture part of it, another thing that surfaced from my memory and that it seems you might like (and maybe actually might have not found before):
https://www.exurbe.com/the-shape-of-rome/
Quote of particularly condensed relevance:
"Going age by age, I will attempt to show how the city’s history and structure are one and the same, and how this real ancient city shows her past in a far more organic and structural way than what we tend invent when we concoct fictitious ancient capitals to populate fantasy worlds or imagined futures."

I'll see you at the Q&S

I'm probably going to do my main party Saturday 6pm to 1am seeing as so many writing panels are on Friday.
