    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Goofing Around with Ships · 6:56pm Jul 1st, 2018

I'm not usually one to multi-ship (aka have different ships for the same pony), but ever since the whole thing with SugarMac started, my mind has been wandering as to what I could do with Party Favor in the romance department in the event of an SM wedding (which wouldn't surprise me at this point, given how the show insists that it's a good couple despite the complete lack of substance and Sugar Belle's wasted potential). It's odd, really, I don't like forcing ships (if I can't come up with a good dynamic and/or story in my head then what's the point in shipping it), but disappointment over a sunken ship (and a better ship than the stupid canon one) does make my mind go into interesting places.

Now, first off, before you say anything, no, I don't like the Party Favor and Night Glider ship. The latter is just a personality-less clone of Rainbow Dash that I have no idea what to do with half the time (to the point where I completely forgot she existed when watching The Cutie Map the first time--and I usually remember stuff like that!). It's a miracle that I managed to do something interesting with her in Hearth's Warming is Merry in Our Town, but even then, I don't think the ship quite jells. Besides, it only appeared on screen for a split second and isn't mentioned at all, anyway, so I can freely ignore that and do what I want.

With that said, here are some of my goofy ideas.

Moondancer

This one came about from reading this story. That first chapter way back when it was just starting was one of the most adorable things I've ever read, and the idea of Moondancer trying to study a party pony (along with cutie mark removal) is a fascinating idea (I do wish there was less of Minuette in that story, it's kind of annoying), and I'm a little bummed out that the story's on hiatus.

Anyway, it got me to like the idea of the Moondancer/Party Favor ship, even if I still preferred SugarFavor. The dynamic between a sweet and goofy guy and a serious nerd girl is equal parts amusing and heartwarming. Heck, right off the top of my head, a story about Moondancer researching the jester magic studies of a mage of old and she's only with Party Favor because he's the mage's descendant could be interesting. And then, parallels to that mage's romance with the party pony he studied and the PartyDancer relationship would ensue.

Heck, writing that would give me the chance to give the Wayer Rune/Jamberry Harvest romance more depth.

Comedy Gold

"Sketch, why ship that OC with Party Favor? Wouldn't it be better to ship her with that other party pony OC you've got, Bananas?"

Thing is, no matter how hard I try, I just can't ship Goldie and Bananas. Goldie's way too fiery and Bananas is prone to teasing (especially toward those with fiery personalities), and all they'd do is set each other off and fight, and I don't ship just because a boy and a girl fight (let's not forget that I ship QuibbleDash for the mutual respect and the geeking out together, not the fighting), or because they have a lot in common (for CheesePie, once the misunderstanding was cleared up and both swallowed their pride (with Pinkie conceding the party and Cheese spilling the beans on his past), Cheese and Pinkie were a fantastic team). They're better off with other folks that keep them cool.

Now, admittedly, the GoldieFavor thing would be a bit of a stretch as well--Brotherly Bonding Time does show that she's quite territorial, even when there's a good reason for the other party pony to be in town (Goldie, you were sick), and PF could be kind of a nervous pushover. On the flip side, Party Favor is much less likely to set her off, being a calmer, more introverted personality to other party ponies, and he's not one to want to butt heads with her. And for all we know, after the whole cult thing, Party Favor could have grown a spine and could hold her back when she's in the wrong. Goldie could have learned from her almost-kidnapping to be less brash, and she might treat PF with her brand of friendliness (still loud and proud but wanting you to have fun) because she notices some similarities to her brother and likes it.

Also, there are several ways they could meet. They could meet at the end of BBT where as party ponies, they sense that Equestria is down two party ponies, and help out with saving the day in the end. Or at Party Pony-Palooza, where all the party ponies meet and throw a huge festival together. Or maybe just the mundane thing of how Party Favor's sister is working with Goldie's brother and PF just visits.

But still, this one is sort of a tossup between adorableness and a disaster.

I also giggle at the crackiness of a Rarity/Party Favor ship, but knowing Rarity, that's a longshot. Best that I could justify it with is that Party Favor (in my headcanon anyway) is from the Canterlot elite, and does know quite a bit about that society from growing up within it. At the same time, PF is well aware that he doesn't fit in that society and prefers a much more humble setting anyway.

But anyway, those are my crazy little thoughts. I'd like to hear your thoughts and what crazy ideas you have. :pinkiehappy:

Admittedly, I've never been very good at thinking up ships and good reasons to have them.

Still, I have wondered about the workings of Party Favor x Inky Rose (the goth mare from the fashion contest in "Honest Apple"). No insightful reasoning to this crackship, I just find it amusing to imagine interactions between a party pony/goth couple.

"Hey Inky! We're going to throw the best balloon party ever! Are you ready?!"

"Parties are but a societal construct to ease the agonizing pain of the knowledge that our souls drift alone in the universe."

"That's the spirit!"
