Must be nice for the kids

So my first year as a teacher has come to a close, and it was all rather uneventful to be quite honest. No teary goodbyes, no hugs farewell, just a rather short "Right, be seeing you on Monday". For those of us who never really considered the life of a teacher, it just rolls straight on to more work for us lot in the summer. At this moment, I'm running a training course for several other teachers, trying to pretend I know more than their 30+ years of experience. At least I've got the paleness going for me.

Now, as the picture would suggest, this fine addition to my blog is going to be about the life fuel of my stories: my dear old laptop. It's seen better days, what with a worrying amount of viruses being purged from it on a daily basis. My mum warned me I might catch something nasty while abroad, I just didn't think it would be a trojan. It's mad eme worry about net security, especially with the kerfuffle with facebook not so long ago (news takes time to filter over here), but more so with other people's security too.

So this comes into question about how much we rely on one piece of tech when it comes to our day to day lives. So much is based on computers and once that goes ya'll are fucked. I say this, but here I am after plonking myself behind the screen since coming back from work (a solid 5 hours or so now) because so much of what I do is computer based. Presentations, fic writing, communication, everything is based on me having a working laptop at any given time. That is pretty scary.

On the other hand, I'm writing this by hitting plastic that tells rocks and electricity to make shit happen. This is insane, and part of what I want to explore one day in fiction. Writing something that's so far removed from an understanding of technology, that we can only see it as magic. I reckon I'll have something tapped out soon enough, maybe only a small piece but a solid one all the same.

Side note, I'm so looking forward to having youtube again. Fuck me.
