Advice is Failure #2 (INSIDE and OUTSIDE) · 5:44am Jun 20th, 2018
I've been given loads of bad and extremely unhelpful advice form people CLAIMING to help me (When really I saw them admitting that they're really just trying to laugh at me)
The ridiculous advice I've heard today is...
You need to give an INSIDE THE FIC reason why the characters do what they did, not just an OUTSIDE, your personal desires
Unfortunately, in my years of dealing with sloppy readers, and ignorant and extremely rude bullies, I've learned that it DOESN'T MATTER if there's INSIDE or OUTSIDE or even Both. Nothing really changes.
Here are some examples....
[FRIENDSHIP IS FAILURE #4: LOVE DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY]
Strings, a musician and recording artist is hopelessly in love with Princess Cadance, but knowing he can never have her, he decided to quit the music business, leave the Crystal Empire, and get as far away from her as he can. He won't even consider Sun Rae, a dear friend who is in love with him.
[OUTSIDE REASON]
This is Friendship is Failure, I want to see Twilight and friends FAIL to convince him, and fail in their mission to help two ponies out.
I like it when a girl tries to be with a guy who either is creeped out by her advances, or simply doesn't reciprocate her feelings.
[INSIDE REASON]
Strings is revealed to be hopelessly in love with Cadance, despite he knows he can't be with her, he wishes no other, and that includes Sun.(He would rather be alone than try to find someone else) He even tried to date other ponies, but it was no use; Cadance was always on his mind.
As he states in the fic, He cannot give Sun the love she needs. He does not wish to try because Love does not work that way. He cannot change his feelings simply because Sun wants him to. Love is also not something that two ponies CAN TRY and make happen. They either have somethign special or they don't.
He wishes to leave the empire. He can't bear to be so close to Cadance and never be able to have her. HE wishes to give up music because Cadance is his inspiration. All he feels now is sadness and misery. He cannot go on like this... he cannot continue to sing and write songs to make other ponies happy if it's breaks him up and hurts him inside (In real life, singers may feel so downhearted and broken inside, they lose their spark)
FRIENDSHIP IS FAILURE #10: THE END OF ENDS REVISION 2017
Count Logan (A reincarnation of Beast boy) Is trying to obliterate all existence as revenge on it for losing Terra, having lived a miserable life, people hating on him, and being deprived and denied of the simple happiness and love he desired, and eventually he came to Equestria to take The two royal sisters. Int he midst of things, Flurry Heart foolishly lunges to attack Logan, but he demonstrates his power and his cruelty by pulling off the infant's head.
"Anyone who dares defy me next will receive a far worse fate!"
(Flurry comes back to life at the end of the story)
People seem to have taken that to SUCH extremes, even labeling me as a real "BABY KILLER"
"It's never cool to see an infant die, even if it is a cartoon"
Too bad...
[OUTSIDE REASONS
I hate Princess Cadance, in the entire MLP Franchise, she is the one SINGLE character I truly LOATHE and have dedicated myself to putting her through hell. I've done many horrible things to her, and what better way to make her cringe this time than killing her infant brat before her eyes
(Please note: This is all just for cartoons and fiction, not reality... so piss off) I hate Flurry Heart because I hate Candace. If I want to destroy that little mule to make her suffer, I will!
[INSIDE REASONS
1: Hello... Flurry just tried to ATTACK Logan. He reacted the same way any villain would... he attacked back.
2: Logan is trying to destroy ALL WORLDS and ALL THINGS, so Flurry Heart would die anyway, even if he didn't pull her head off. (In the original posting, Flurry Heart perished with Shining Armor in a out-vent gas explosion when the world was crumpling)
3: Logan was CREATED to kill. He is the chosen executor by the Dark Prognosticus. He is a puppet chosen by the book to fulfill the prophecies, destroy all worlds, and kill all life forms; Like a slave (Logan) obeying its master (The book)
4: Logan is very mentally ill (Driven by anger, sadness, hatred and remorse) hates all beings. He doesn't care if he's never met them before, or they had nothing to do with his suffering. "I don’t care about any world anyway! They are all meaningless! Better that I destroy them! Better yet, I will make it as if they never existed at all!!”
HE HATES EXISTENCE and is trying to destroy it! (He wants obliterate himself and before that he plans to take everything else with him)
Those are some examples, but like I said... in the end, it doesn't seem to matter because the people still mock it anyway, and their excuse is...
"You just made up excuses because you wanted to do it."
"No one likes seeing a baby get killed"
"He's being a selfish jerk off and deserves to be killed, or at least denied future rights"
"He's a whiny ass that can't move on and improve himself to be a better person"
Heck, even for Flurry Heart's death scene, even though I originally didn't have Logan pull her head off and made her die in an explosion instead, I STILL GOT MOCKED FOR IT.
One user said he'd mock me just for even THINKING of pulling Flurry's Head off. (How fair is that)
So, as you can see... it changes nothing.
Do it= You get mocked
Don't do it=Still get mocked.
I speak from years, and years of dealing with these "PRICKS"
Inside or outside doesn't matter to them, all they care about is laughing and bullying.
All the more reason for me NOT to take people's advice when it comes to writing.
-I don't like their ideas
-The ideas don't help and change nothing (I even changed it so Strings paid a large sum of money to the charity he refused= STILL MOCKED)
-They don't even care if it's done or not (Just as long as they get to be jerks and act like bullies)
That's all their is to it.
First of all, giving examples of where you did have inside reasons for the events in the fic, it doesn't prove what your critics have said wrong. Because there are still multiple time where inside reasoning is directly connected to outside reasoning. And with the one example you did give that works, I'd argue that it wasn't even done well. I mean, why did Strings love Cadance? It couldn't have been actual romantic love, because that takes time to build. It couldn't be love at first sight, because that doesn't exist. Does he love her for what she has done? Because that's not romantic love. You also never gave a reason as to why he stopped loving Sun. If you start loving someone else, you don't just stop loving someone before you.
That literally is the opposite of what love is. Love is literally something that to people (or ponies in this case) make happen OVER TIME. That "something special" is literally something two people would have DEVELOPED.
That and it's technically just a rehash of what you've done multiple times: Boy loves girl, boy can't get girl, boy gives up on life. Based on that, it's not even the first time you've done it in an MLP fic, nor is your reasoning for it in any way not connected to you personally.
And then your second example doesn't even work as an inside reason, because everything about that fic is outside reasoning. You're reasoning for anything Count Logan does isn't even canon.
1: Not all villains are like that.
2: Logan was attacking Equestria.
3: The reasoning for Logan being a villain comes from outside reasoning alone.
In other words, in the original posting, Logan DIDN'T specifically target Flurry Heart. Instead, you changed it specifically so that the reasoning came directly from you personally. You said it yourself. He was gonna destroy everything anyway. You said it wouldn't make a difference how Flurry died, because she was gonna die anyway. That reasoning alone creates less of a reason to specifically target her. It's like taking a branch off of a tree before chopping the tree down. There's no reason to.
That's not a reason, because it doesn't explain why Logan was chosen for that in the first place.
Again, that doesn't explain anything other that reasoning that comes from outside.

Perhaps, but the fact remains a guy cannot change his feelings simply because the girl wants him to. She can't just MAKE him forget, or MAKE him love her. Love just HAPPENS, it's not something you build.

That explains the conditions for being chosen by the dark prognosticus. However, the reason BB is like that is purely you.
Anyone who knows how brain chemistry works can tell you that's wrong. At least that's not how it works in the real world. If that's how it works in your fics, fine. But there has never been a case in the real world between two people where love just happens. And I'm not saying that it will definitely happen. You're right that someone can't get someone else to love them just because they want them to, nor can that person forget about someone. Both people have to be willing to try. So you're not wrong when you say she can't make him love her.
