I am still alive 👀
I want to post a quick medical update, because I can, and also take a quick moment to thank everyone for their nice comments and for your care. I wish I could have replied to everyone, but last week was a bit of a sh*tstorm for me, as you can imagine, so I wasn't really in the best mental place. This was the first time I've had an actual legitimate medical emergency since I moved here, and it felt cripplingly afraid and alone and far away from home... but the support system I have both here on Fimfiction and other places was legitimately helping me and prevented me from digging myself into a pit of fear and loneliness.
Anyway, the TL;DR diagnosis is that I had three kidney stones (two 3mm, one 6mm). They key thing here is that only one of the 3mm stones was causing a problem, and I managed to get rid of it and the other 3mm. Unfortunately, I still have the massive 6mm one nestled very deep inside my kidney. This is both bad and good. Bad because I have a big rock inside my kidney causing me constant damage in small amounts. Good because it's not causing me any immediate crippling pain, and probably won't for some time as long as it doesn't grow.
As such, my current plan of action is to get Health Care ASAP, have a second cost-free in-depth examination, and if it's determined that I need a procedure (be it surgery or the shock-wave therapy), I'll see if my Health Insurance covers it and if not, I'll probably fly back home to Mex. City where it will be affordable.
So, until then, I just need to keep it supervised and change my eating habits into a diet that will help dissolve the stone and prevent new ones from forming.
I also was advised to keep my stress low, so I'm maintaining the hiatus until further notice. I didn't realize until this week how much pressure I'd put on myself, and it took this happening for me to finally admit that writing wasn't something I enjoyed anymore. It felt like work, and I was in denial of being severely burn-out by pressure and expectations, both external and internal.
However, I don't think the hiatus will be very long (probs a month or two), and when it ends, I do plan to have content ready. I just need to take time to remember why I started writing in the first place.

I wish more companies approved orthrotripsy i think its called. its where they take a sonic pulse, and just shatter the stone to pass harmlessly. its like 45 minutes to do or so. But get well!
It saddens me to hear you've lost your affection for writing, all things considered. But who knows, maybe at the end of this you'll have rediscovered how to write in a way that doesn't make you feel it's a mandatory chore.
In the meantime, make like a Pie and crush those stones with your iron insides!

Really glad to hear you’re doing better. And for what it’s worth, I’m a big supporter of taking sabbaticals from writing. My production has nosedived over the last year or so, but I’ve been in a great place mentally as of late and I’ve really enjoyed the small pieces I have worked on.

Oh my God. I once had a half millimetre kidney stone and it was a world of fire and agony. The best of painkillers did nothing.

And if you need to reduce stress and/or anxiety, there's this one song called Weightless by Marconi Union that is said to reduce anxiety. It helped me immensely while studying for my bachelor. It helped me relax, maybe it'll be of some use to you, too.
On one hand, the thought that the flood debacle being a whopping three years ago gives me a warm fuzzy feeling (not the event, just the timing) for having been a part of this community, both FIMFiction and the microcosm of Mono's followers, for quite some time even before that.
On the other hand, it makes me feel very old.
Also, Mono, stop trying to die on us, we love you, and we want your stories, but we mostly just love you so stop it!
Wow, that is distressing to hear, but on the upside you are getting better and that is not nothing. And I can sympathize with putting pressure on yourself, it's a very easy thing to do.
Just take you time and take care of it. Your health and well being come first.
Drink lotsa water! That helps! I had a larger kidney stone myself, and the shockwave therapy did the trick. Was a pain pissing out the fragments, lemme tell you. But hey, it was all gone afterwards!

I'm so sorry you're going through this, though I'm happy to know your'e doing better. I hope things go smoothly for you, I really do.
And yes, you SERIOUSLY need to watch your stress level. Trust me, I know from experience. My incident wasn't nearly as bad and painful as yours is, but I got stressed out and then I got seriously sick, and it nearly got bad enough to have potentially KILLED me.
Your health is the most important thing, and stressing yourself out and weakening your body doesn't do anyone any good, not you, and not us.
So get better, you hear me? Whatever it takes, get better. We'll all be here. Hearing that your better is/will be as good as a posted chapter.
I firmly believe that a story is most enjoyable to read if it was enjoyable to write. Take your time.

Ah kidney stones. I remember mine. I was in such immense pain they had to give me a shot of morphine... good times.
Also 3 stones at once? You must have a pain tolerance equivalent of a God because my single stone dropped me.
Also sound blasts are a bit risky since they can miss. I found out it took 2 tries to blast mine... somehow.
Take all the time you need, get better and then, but only then, go back to being awesome.

I hope you feel better soon Mono, I've never had kidney stones, but if they are remotely similar to Gall stones then you have my deepest sympathies. (I wouldn't wish that sort of pain on anybody).

Good to hear that there's some progress on this, and hopefully that bigger stone will be dealt with by the diet changes.
I wish you the best of luck with that last stone, truly. Diet and lifestyle changes for health are sometimes harder than any procedure you have to go through, so I hope that that part goes as smooth as possible for you as well as any procedures and costs in the future!
It really sucks when something you felt passionate and happy about turns into work, burnout sucks A LOT. Take your time, and if a month isn't long enough for you, then don't hesitate to take a longer break. I've seen fics that went on hiatus for five years and return to many adoring fans who didn't care how long it took for a story to get updated, just that it was updated, so don't think we'll be any less enthusiastic for your stories for any break you might take! Enjoy your break!
As someone who has have had Kidney Stones I can honestly sympathize with you. I had them so bad I had to have the surgery to break them up, hope you feel better soon.
